I only wish this happened before the WHCD, Obama could of just made jokes about this all night long
You think I can use my Golden Age Pass at the state campgrounds after the Federal takeover?
I am in complete agreement with you butâŚRand Paul seems to be the least insane of the Republican candidates. That saidâŚhe should seek professional help and a bed in the asylum.
Itâs sad for the reputation of clowns to call them members of the Republican Clown Car.
While heâs at it, Rand should look into the possibility that the Apollo moon landings were staged in a Hollywood studio.
As much as I dislike (hate) much of what Rand Paul stands for, on a few selective issues I agree with him more than I do with Obama. We shouldnât throw out the baby with the bathwater.
Progressives should be deeply concerned about this issue. We now live an an oligarchy. The middle class is disappearing right before our eyes as 99% of new wealth is going to the top one-percent. The oligarchs know they are winning, and they know they have Obama and Hillary in their pocket - just as own the Republicans⌠Letâs not forget that Obama took more money from Wall Street than he did from small donors like me, and he chose his economic advisers from the champions of the oligarchs Letâs not forget that Obama pledged to end the Bush tax cuts, and then fought to keep them . He said he was against stupid wars and then he decided to fight a whole bunch of then.
I sincerely believe the oligarchs are worried about the possibility that their rip-roaring success may precipitate a revolution - not yet but someday. They are preparing for martial law by building huge detention camps, by giving heavy-duty military equipment to local police departments, by trying to make the Internet the near-exclusive domain of large corporations, even by putting kill switches on cell phones.
We ignore Rand Paul at the risk of destroying everything the Democratic Party once stood for. Ideas are not necessarily bad just because they come out of his mouth. Obama is not always our friend and Paul is not always our enemy. Letâs do whatâs right and quit being so tribal.
Go, go, Gadget!
I thought this whole TX takeover thing was a silly joke, but in fact itâs shaping up to be the #1 cause of ridicule of the Republican nut jobs this spring. Iâm really happy to see that itâs furthering the belief among independent voters that these guys are too crazy to govern.
You are wrong. Rand Paul is not qualified (in any way) to be POTUS.
Just like Gov. Abbott, Rand Paul is pandering to the paranoid and goofy, black helicopter wing of the Republican party. The nut jobs have a strangle hold on the Repubs!!
The White House?
Call someone out?
Keep in mind weâre dealing with mass hysteria with a strong element of paranoia. I know from personal experience that this urban myth is an old, old one in TX. I first heard it way back in 1985 and it was old then.
Somehow it metastasized from a silly urban myth into mass hysteria. Psych 101 textbooks usually devote at least a page to the phenomenon. In WW2, crazy rumors were such a threat that our govnt paid social psychologists to study ways to counter them. Their conclusion: Itâs very hard to do. Try googling âmass hysteriaâ.
The POTUS here is the bad guy, cominâ to take our guns. Any efforts to challenge this outbreak of hysteria gets rationalized as more evidence of the validity of the conspiracy. Thatâs the nature of conspiracy fantansies: Efforts to counter them as seen as proof that the conspiracy is real.
We can be sure theyâre talking about this in the White House and donât need me to remind them of the pitfalls in trying to counter it with dismissals or reassurances.
And if the Army calls off the exercise, then that, too, will be seen as conclusive proof that the plan was spoiled by those alert citizens of the great state of TX.
Whatâs a mother to do?
Well that pretty much settles it. If Reince Priebus thought he could control the GOP primary debates and keep them from descending into batshitcrazy, poo-slinging, clownfests, he was wrong.
I knew the GOP was home to a bunch of idiots, but between Paul and Abbott they seem to have taken a whole new road to lunacy. In the other article about the call out of the State Guard it mentions that the exercise will take place in Texas, Utah, and parts of S. California, with only about 1200 total troops involved. There are no exercises mentioned as part of this in New Mexico or Arizona, so how exactly is this a takeover of the Southwest? Perhaps in addition to getting back on their meds, they might also want to get out a good book on geography of the Southwest US. It never ceases to amaze me that adult politicians with college and professional degrees can be so incredibly stupid. About the only thing Rand Paul could say in this case that makes any sense is that he was unaware of the exercise, which since he is neither a member of the military or on any committee that might actually have to be informed of such an exercise. That he thinks it is something he should look into is fine, but that he would even give it any credence to begin with is where he goes off the rails. That the Governor of Texas, an attorney, would even begin to address it with such actions as he has taken show just how crazy and paranoid the GOP leadership has become and the fact that they are in positions of power is absolutely terrifying.
LOL. Please circulate a pledge letter to all GOP/Teatroll candidates so we can get them all on the record that theyâre this fucking paranoid.
When I first heard this in 1985, the story was that US soldiers were being trained in techniques to seize the guns of private citizens, as if anyone needed special training to kick down a door. Jeebus!
And this all came from a friend of a friend who had a friend who was a colonel in the Army, but couldnât speak out publicly.
These âsourcesâ are always described as colonels among the dramatis personae. .
What took you so long Rand? I can see you carefully weighing the crazy vote against the sane vote in the Republican party. Any Democrat would have told you long ago that the crazy vote wins for Republicans⌠you should have started your phony look into the exercise long ago.
Oh please - go fuck yourself somewhere. Do you even know how utterly stupid you comment is. If you think Obama is your enemy and Rand your friend, please by all means vote for him. Knock yourself out
What mindless nutbaggery.
And wildly off-topic, too.
He/she/it isnât just wrong, itâs a stupid comment
This is just another example of how heâs really just another republican. Anyone with half a brain would have shouted this down with an emphatic NO, and said that thinking such things is sheer stupidity. But instead, because heâs a craven coward, Paul gives a mealy mouthed half assed âIâll look into itâ line.
