Reporting from The Oregonian seems to indicate that Finicum was actually charging at officers when he was shot:

“Robert “LaVoy” Finicum, the spokesman of the refuge occupation, was shot and killed after he charged police during a roadside stop north of Burns on Tuesday, according to a man on Facebook who claims to be the driver of one of two vehicles involved in the highway shooting.”

Such a ban would have been in the interests of Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland, and South Carolina, the former three since slave-suitable tobacco was played out, and in the no-importation period (after Wilberforce succeeded in getting passage of the Slave Trade Act of 1807) the value of slaves was, as in marshy South Carolina, in their procreative function, especially when cotton took off to the West.

We’ve met Michele Fiore before. She’s one-quarter charlatan, three-quarters crazy. When she’s not waving guns around or supporting the Bundy clan to the hilt she’s talking about flushing cancer, which she says is a fungus, out of your system with salt water and sodium carbonate, or refusing to let the gummint see records from her health-care business she’s required to produce, or having pictures taken to show off her mane of hair and shall we say ample frame and endowments. Quite a character. Maybe not the most reliable or disinterested reporter in this situation or any other. I wouldn’t believe her if she told me the sky was up.

The Constitution said that Congress couldn’t ban the importation of slaves before 1809 and Congress did pass such a law. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion at the time of the framing. Again, another example of a stupid compromise.

Biggest winner in the occupation coverage so far has been the Mormon church, IMO, because the press has either not thought to or has resisted the temptation to call the occupiers the Mormon Tea Party.

This is exactly what I expected would happen had the FBI gone in too early, guns blazing. The whole martyrdom cult of personality of these gun humping traitors would have been amplified 1000x over.

I feel for the family. But Finicum made his intentions perfectly clear - he had no intention of leaving Oregon on his own and would not be taken alive. This situation as it relates to him especially just has suicide by cop written all over it.

You’d sooner trust a man on facebook claiming x, y, and z. You’re taking the second- or third-hand word of somebody who may or may not be an accessory, and who may or may not be spinning a heroic demise for Finicum. This indicates jack shit, honestly. Isn’t it funny that Facebook & Twitter both corroborate and deny the narrative we’ve already selected to taste.

Fiore’s nuts, and I doubt what she says. But when a cop shoots somebody, I want answers before I go spitting on the dead. These weirdos committed crimes and they’ll answer for them. But as far as I know, they didn’t hurt anybody.

The agent will have to file a report on the shooting. Finicum may not have hurt anyone, but he definitely made threats and you can hear for yourself what the other terrorists are saying.

The people commenting on this site may not have all the answers, but they know a lot of the history and context based on the terrorists’ own writings and videos. Count me as one who has no problem taking the federal agent’s word over Fiore.
