Discussion for article #233252

Oh my God, you mean all that footage from 1989 was a hoax?

“CNN Money noted in its report that Williams said in a 2004 interview that he “arrived at the Berlin Wall a day after – more like 12 hours after – Tom Brokaw did.” So Williams’ statements on witnessing “the night the wall came down” seem to fit with an apparent pattern Williams conflating his own experiences with others’ as he repeats a given anecdote over the years.”

The thing is, what he meant to say is that he wasn’t on the ground at the Berlin Wall at the time. He was above the Berlin wall, in a helicopter, embedded with Seal Team 6, and they couldn’t land because they were taking RPG fire from Russia.

Now there are questions about Brian Williams and his reporting about the moon landing. So it was a hoax

If your gonna make up stories about being present at histroic events in Germany the Reagan library is the place to do it

No, no - this should keep going on, and on … until we are get past the notion of his being a serial confabulationist

This is all soooo booooring; aren’t all of them, especially Billo, Scarborough, Wolfie et al, living in a Burgundian dream reality? And if none of us can prove we’re not living in a simulated reality, we likewise can’t prove that the thing that’s been calling itself “Brian Williams” isn’t the Great Simulator’s personally-created avatar, sent down to be outed for the lamestream media’s sins.

Stop picking on Brian Williams. He’s my best friend, and I know that he in fact did all these things because I was there with him.

“An anonymous NBC News source “in a position to know” told CNN Money that Williams arrived in Berlin the day after the wall fell.”

What position was that? Left hand out, palm up, right hand reaching back for the wallet?

Fuck “anonymous” sources…especially this fucking nonsense of adding “in a position to know” as if to assure the reader that it’s not just bullshit…particularly in the context of an ongoing scandal in which a “news” person has proven to us (yet again) that “news” people bullshit us all the fucking time.

At first, I thought this might be a legit investigation.

At this point, getting rid of Brian Williams has all the hallmarks of a vendetta. I don’t know who he pissed off or whose wife he slept with but his act of betrayal to someone for something goes very deep and will not stop until Williams is hanging from a tree with his own belt.

He’s never been more than a haircut; the kind of guy who does weekend weather in Tampa. NBC should have simply fired him. the problem is that journalistic cred no longer lead to anchor jobs. It probably started with Peter Jennings and finding a telegenic person with depth and credibility has become more and more difficult.

NBC seems to be building a breach of Contract case. They just signed him to a $10 mil a year contract in December of 2014. If they just fire him, they have to pay BIG bucks. But if they can get him for a breach of Contract, he might get squat. One incident of lying might not win a case against him, he can just claim he remembered incorrectly. If they can create a systematic pattern of him just flat out lying, they have a good chance to win a case. That’s the reason for their investigation.

There is a “piling on” going on here for sure - but this guy has a real issue with prevaricating

They can’t “just fire him”, they need to build a case for breach of Contract so they don’t have to pay him any kind if severance.

It strikes me that Tom Brokaw is an NBC News source that would be “in a position to know.”

This is mooohost inter-resting, grasshopper. Who would have thought? But as you point out, looks like the typical case of “building a case” against an employee to get him to quit or to dump him.
I guess we’ll know soon enough.

Isn’t it expected that one tell a fake anecdote, preferably based on an old movie, at the Reagan Library? Like the time Brian took the memory core out of the Hal9000? Or the time Brian and his three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim, all sat in the Korova Milkbar trying to make up their rassoodocks what to do with the evening?
