Oh man. Just an unequaled artist. There’s thunderous applause in heaven right now as they welcome a very large spirit. But she found some recognition down here too, happily.
God rest her soul.
There are certain voices/talents that can just grab you and make you feel what they are saying. Some voices get more textured and nuanced with age. Aretha Franklin was one of those rare talents that just kept getting better, and she will be greatly missed.
The lady could sing. Thanks, Aretha, for sharing your talents and music and grace with the world. Peace.

That harmony on “Mary Don’t You Weep.” Man.
MSNBC is reairing her performance “My Country 'Tis of Thee” during Barack’s inauguration.
So moving. I had forgotten this.
The greatest singer of our time.
Think about this passage in her obit.
The 1998 Grammys gave her a chance to demonstrate her range. Franklin performed “Respect,” then, with only a few minutes’ notice, filled in for an ailing Luciano Pavarotti and drew rave reviews for her rendition of “Nessun Dorma,” a stirring aria for tenors from Puccini’s “Turandot.”
“I’m sure many people were surprised, but I’m not there to prove anything,” Franklin told The Associated Press. “Not necessary.”
Do you know anybody else who could do that?
Anyone who has ever put together a mix tape without including Aretha’s music on there, well, I just don’t know how that you could miss one of the greats. In fact I’m not sure how you can live with yourself. She was the one, the only…She was the best. Her music was the soundtrack of a generation and will outlive and impress generations to come. Truly an American treasure. If you don’t tap your toes and swing your hips, even a smidgen listening to her music, you must be dead inside.
You brought love and pride to Detroit when the rest of the country was out to cast the city as a real downer. RIP Aretha Franklin.
Actually, he’s probably relieved that this sad story has pushed Omarosa out of the headlines.
Yes, all good things must come to an end.
Thank you, Aretha.
Thank you Ms. Franklin, for sharing your gift with the world.
Another Icon of an era moves on to the next gig.
It’s okay, though…the stage there is REALLY big and she is commanding every inch of it.
My favorite. (Written by Stevie Wonder.)
Oh, Aretha. This just isn’t right. Safe journeys. We’re all saying a little prayer for you.
That was one of the most inspiring performances of the Grammys. And the love that showered her after the performance was terrific.
