Eggs-ackly.
Trump is a transparent phony to most Europeans. Even people on the right of the European political spectrum see that. That, I hope, will foretell a shift among some center-right voters in this country as well (particularly white female center right voters and minority center right voters).
Looks like Putin is afraid to shake Macron’s hand. I wonder why.
Katie - He’s afraid there might be some TrumpFungus left on it …
That will likely take awhile.
There’s a lot of reasons for this timeline and one of the prominent ones, is that Trump was strangely viewed as less corrupt as Clinton, by those who voted for him.
Now folks are exchanging that belief for an election rehash (‘but what about Obama?"’), but that (and other reasons) should eventually fade.
At least there is one or two Western Leaders who have the courage and the cojones to stand up to Putin and call him out.
All we seem to have is a cowardly looser.
Macron is brilliant and courageous!! Go Emmanuel!
I wish Republicans in America were not so committed to transplanting Russian values here.
The French pendulum is definitely on the upswing.
Not only did their leader crush our leaders hand, at a huge international event no less but now he’s very publicly defying and accusing the Russian strongman.
Frenchies doing badass is a toughie to swallow.
What next, gifting Duterte handcuffs?
Actually, I suspect Putin’s interference is beginning to backfire…
When Obama first pushed for sanctions against Russia, he had a lot of push-back because Europe hoped that trade with Russia would help their economies recover. They aren’t pushing back now. And the links between the Trump admin and the Russians means they’ll be watched too closely to be able to drop the sanctions at the US level.
When Putin started his games, the US military presence in Europe was a shadow of its Cold War levels. Now there are NATO troops in Poland and the Baltic States - and these nations are rapidly modernizing their forces.
Europe has traditionally been a band of rivals, but recent comments made by Merkel and Macron indicate that Putin may have succeeded in creating a united front - against him.
Putin hoped for a passive US when it came to Russia’s activities - but it was the US that warned France about the pre-election hack. Putin is learning that the military and civil service in this country serve the Constitution first and foremost- and will do their duty to protect our country and our allies. And the more Trump insults them, the more motivated they will be.
And Russia was just hit hard by the recent ransomware attack because of widespread out-of-date and bootleg software - so now all of his victims know he may be much more vulnerable to cyber attacks than they were.
And with the FBI investigation going on, they will be amassing enough evidence of financial transactions, etc., that activities that don’t involve Trump will also be exposed and subject to prosecution.
And finally, Putin may see himself as a Bond villain, but everyone looking at Trump will be thinking “Is that the best he could do?”
I hope this means Vlad will be living in VERY interesting times!
I love me some Macron…!
That’s encouraging.
Love it!
Rarely do we get to see the brighter side of the coin nor does anyone choose to acknowledge it.
Putin’s first goal is to get out from under the sanctions. He is a dead cracker without the oil deals.
He is either trying to deflect attention away, by injecting himself into other nation’s politics, from that or he’s an evil genius that just can’t quit going to the well.
Installing Trumpp sounded good in theory but the other side of that coin is, it also sounded bad in theory.
The bad theory is prevailing.
And FTW
Oh. My. Word. Their faces. Tough man Vlad looks just a little bit nervous about the handshake. Wonder why.
Props to the new President of this nation’s oldest ally.
Ah to be young, and French president. Looks like he’ll put the Grande back into la Nation.
Looks like there’s a new, competent, effective, and possibly powerful leader of the free world.
The contrast with Mr. Trump is incredible.
For example:
This:
I agree. I think there’s several.
Considering Trudeau also, the latent, global strength of liberalism appears to be something the conservative movement may have taken for granted.
Imagine a global, liberal uprising against these billionaire crooks. They haven’t got a prayer.
Excellent leadership from Macron!
