Discussion: Public Editor: NYT Stringer's 'Jewish Litmus Test' Was 'Unacceptable'

And Cohen is an old Irish name

It’s the reverse litmus test that bothers me more–the assumption that because you have a Jewish name, or “look” Jewish that you have a certain set of social and political points of view. I am easily identified as Jewish and automatically assumed to have an entire panoply of views and opinions because of that–and I think many Jews have experienced this.

Actually “Cohan” is the very Irish name you’re thinking of.

There is William Blaine “Bill” Richardson (D-NM), who doesn’t exactly sound Latino either.

Plaque in Plaza San Jacinto in San Angel, a suburb of Mexico City, honoring the San Patricios, which translates to St. Patrick’s Battalion. This battalion of Irish-born and Irish-American soldiers fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American War between 1846 and 1848.

I have the opposite experience, my last name is Saul and throughout my life I have been expected to be Jewish. Whatever, here is an interview with Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame, talking about BDS and the organized opposition to it.
