Spending taxpayers’ money this way is only training for when he’ll be spending just as much taxpayers money when (he thinks) he’ll win a senator’s or governor’s race. As if.

What drives me nuts is that the media judges each party on their own terms. So Republicans revel in destroying the government and the media frames it as “are they meeting their goals” whereas a Democrat orders a bottle of wine at lunch and suddenly Joe Scarborough is smarming about how they’ve lost their way and can’t connect with the little people. It just makes my head explode. So if a Democrat ever even had 1/100th of the charges that Zinke, Pruitt, Carson, etc. were running up it’d be a 4 year scandal with 10 investigations. But if it’s the GOP - well, that’s just how they roll.

I’d never even heard the word kakocracy before these knuckeheads came into power.
There hadn’t been a lot of cause to think about it until the Cheney administration, but, arguably, there it was spotty or covered for by the career employees. Now, it’s hard to find any exceptions among the political appointees and the career people apparently don’t have the right loyalties anymore.

Italy is expensive but I honestly cannot figure out how he spent that much.
A private Vatican tour is not that expensive. You can spend a lot on a hotel room but you have to work on it to spend as much as he has spent - he must have been staying in presidential suites.

It’s actually not that hard, because he has to have 10 people around him. A couple of aides, and a 24 hour security team to protect him from…I don’t know ecoterrorists or something. $4000 for first class plane tickets, $300/night hotel x 8 = $2400, $120 per diem x 8 = $1,000 (both standard government rates), and you’re 2/3 of the way there without counting special trips and such.
