Discussion: Prosecutors Drop All Charges Against Man In Chandra Levy Case

Everyone knows it was Condit.

Really hard on her family. Not that that would justify convicting the man–even if he did kill her–on false grounds.

Everyone? Who’s everyone?

Have you considered Donald Trump as a suspect? Or Roger Ailes, just to name two?

Lousy case from day one.

The PD screwed the pooch by not searching the whole park nor did they use dogs. Apparently nobody told them to use dogs and some of the park is really hard to search. Really, really hard. Doing due diligence might have screwed up the steroid dosing schedules for the officer.

Just like in the Anthrax case they glommed onto someone as a suspect. Doesn’t matter if he’s guilty or not, it’s just easier.

That’s something I’ve never understood about this case. The police knew - almost right away - that Levy had gone to Rock Creek Park. And they knew it would be hard to remove a person from the park in broad daylight. And they could see for themselves that the park had rough terrain and plenty of places to hide a body.

So why, oh why, didn’t they immediately do a search with dogs?? It just makes no sense.

The “police chief” was a moron in a nice shiny uniform. Had an excuse for everything. They searched the part again 4 months or so after she disappeared without dogs. When asked the “police chief” said that nobody told him to use dogs. Also, he said that they didn’t search the part of the park where the body was secreted because it was hard to search and a cop might skin a knee or something. Seriously, the guy was THAT stupid.

A citizen walking a dog found the body when the untrained dog sniffed out the corpse.

My better self knows I shouldn’t be laughing out loud at this, but I am.

So is the suspect exonerated? What is this new information they don’t want to release? How long was he in custody? How has it affected his life? Was he already in jail? What? What? What?

There’s nothing funny about it. Nothing.

The murder showed a high degree of criminal sophistication. Condit was a low-functioning moron.

I’m not laughing at this case at all - sorry if it appeared that way. I was laughing at the snark in estamm’s comment.

You can laugh, but it was buffoonery similar to this that gave the world Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

As someone who has hiked all over Rock Creek Park, I agree. As I recall, not only did they have a good sense that she had gone to the park but even had a fairly good idea of where she had gone within the park. And while it has remote sections, we’re not talking the Grand Tetons here. It’s a wooded area with gentle hills and valleys, with a handful of small (but completely walkable) ravines carved by small springs. I can’t imagine that dogs wouldn’t have been able to find something if brought in early on.

Is “removal” the new euphemism for deportation?

They would have found her within a few minutes if not seconds if they had brought in dogs during the first search. For the idiot “police chief” to say that nobody told him they were looking for a dead body FOUR FRIGGIN’ MONTHS after the disappearance is criminal.

Did they expect to see Chandra siting on a rock saying, “Hey, where have you guys been ? I’ve been waiting for you!”

It didn’t show any sophistication at all. She was found beaten to death in Rock Creek Park.

Strange turn of events, though. I’ll be curious to hear more.

I had a college course with Chandra. Sat right next to her and talked to her each class. She was such a bright, inspired, and ambitious young woman. It still brings tears to my eyes when I read articles about her. I hope her family is doing ok and somehow, someway is able to find closure from this tragic event.
