It’s not likely. For some reason the schools and the police never saw what was going on—it seems to have come to a head quickly—but now the county child protective services are involved. It’s a well-off county generally with well-funded services and I’m sure the social workers will take a good hard look at the family situation before they make any decision. The 6-year-old is going to need a lot of care over the years anyway, that seems certain.
