Discussion for article #227138

Well, we can’t have a senior operations manager of campus dining using pot. They might serve cookies.

So Princeton prefers its food service people work with untreated “inflammatory bowel disease.”

One would think we are talking about Liberty University not a supposed liberal university.

Will be interesting to see if the NJ courts take a run at this one. Here in oh-so-liberal California, the Courts ruled an engineer (something tech, coder, not sure) could be fired by his employer for marijuana use that did not occur during working hours. He was legally permitted to use the medication, but Prop 215 does not (at least not 5 years ago) trump an employers right to fire an at-will or other employee.

I wonder if Princeton’s human resources representatives have also told toking students that for now, they should not show up for classes?

It’s the PTSD they need to worry about.

Something tells me there is more to this story on Princeton’s side than insisting that an employee not use medical marijuana on his own time. Most likely they are tired of the Princeton name being associated with the marijuana reform candidate.

Is this TPM or Buzzfeed?
Seriously, the article’s title should say, “Princeton Warns Medical Marijuana Patient: Quit Pot Or Be Fired… says employee.”
There’s literally no input from the university on this. It is entirely this guy’s side of the story.
Kind of disappointing from TPM. What’s next? Articles about “This One Crazy Weight Loss Secret that Obama Doesn’t Want You to Know About”?

Shame on you, Princeton.

Princeton and Marijuana in the headline: this must be a Josh Marshall TPM story.

Well, this all seemed like an arbitrary exercise in power until

He is running as a New Jersey congressional candidate for the Legalize Marijuana Party.

Yeah, I think Princeton probably has more of a problem with political activists who court controversy and make a farce of The Establishment.

Re-read the article – it looks like Princeton was given an opportunity to respond and chose not to.

TPM needs to learn that it’s poor form to post pictures of herbage that looks that good.

Some of us are trying to be productive here.

When I worked at the University of Pennsylvania the only policy about drug use we had was if you were arrested on university property or at a university function or on university business for selling drugs then you had to report the incident to your immediate supervisor. There was no guidance as to what said supervisor should do with that information.

Right, just a cartoon of a pot leaf wasn’t good enough. It hurts just to look at that.

I wonder if they have the same ‘restrictions’ against oxycontin…recreational AND prescribed. Is Princeton saying that all employees have to TELL their bosses what medication they might be on? Slippery slope there Princeton.
