Discussion: Primary Buzz Already Growing Amid Trump Political Struggles

In a political party that is full of bigots and authoritarians Trump is the biggest bigot and authoritarian of them all so he will be just fine in obtaining the nomination but the general election could be another matter entirely. There is also the possibility that he won’t run for re-election because by that time he will be bored with the whole idea of being president. I mean this is a man who divorces a wife without apparently a second thought so not running for re-election would be totally in character.

“The door is wide open.”

Of course the door to beating Chiselin’ Trump is “wide open.” That’s because Chiselin’ Trump is unhinged.

“His base won’t turn on him, but if there is someone they can connect to and feel confident in, they might turn away from him,” Cuban told The Associated Press. “The door is wide open. It’s just a question of who can pull it off.”

Somehow I can’t help but think, that calling for another more competent fascist, is not the solution. And unless it is a fascist who can play as virtuously on the darkest impulses of Trump’s base, it will not budge.

Trump is but a symptom - his base is the real monster.

Feeding this beast is not an option it has to be slain.

This is why Donald could look at the eclipse and not damage his eyes.

“Yet Trump’s muddled response to a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month has emboldened his critics to talk about the once unthinkable.”

Trump was proactively covering for neo-Nazis, and the rightly interpreted it as such. That’s why they celebrated. Can we please stop saying “muddled”? That’s how this shit gets normalized.

This article is getting a bit ahead of itself, IMO. I find it far more likely that Pence is primaried for the Presidential nomination in 2020, than Trump. I believe Trump will be gone before 2020, and Pence will be an extremely weakend lame duck.

I suspect that the noise others are making…including Pence himself…about running in 2020, is probably a good indication that others are preparing for that scenario as well.

@machopicasso, the verb you and the AP writer are looking for is “squid ink”. As when Trump gets into trouble, either He or His MSM-paid supporters squid ink the issue to to end the conversation. It’s like the “thought-terminating cliché” but a lot harder to call shenannigans on it :-1:

Jesus. Mark Johnson and Dwayne Johnson. The mere fact that Republicans are still looking to celebrities shows that Trump is a symptom, not the disease. Or, possibly more aptly, he’s an opportunistic infection taking advantage of an immune system wrecked by three decades of Republican norm-busting. And now, rather than fixing the immune system, they’re just asking for a better class of infection.

Who knew that one could put sunscreen directly on one’s eyeballs? How brilliant!

ETA: Some of these people really are that stupid, aren’t they?! :astonished:

They are now the American Nazi Party, although they’ll never admit it.
This all started with Ronald Reagan and all the many, many things he did to install the right-wing movement and the oligarchical corporatists in control of this country. And it was hyper-charged by Rupert Murdoch and the creation of his right-wing media empire, most particularly of course, Fox “News.”

Every Republican is.

Don’t be fooled. The GOP and the Republican “man on the street” have exactly the setup they have been working toward for decades. They have elected the character Rump played on teevee the rest of the GOP politicians that just repeated how good they are on the right-wing shows. Unfortunately for all of us is the fact that, in reality, we got performers in the 2017 version of the Keystone Kops and Mr. Wonderful that doesn’t actually know much of anything. Look at what these people are doing … holy shit … when they finish dismantling government … what will be left to provide the services a government provides ???

Here it is again … Hillary warned the entire fucking country about this guy but she was minimized with a despicable double-standard perpetrated by cable news (primarily) even though she had even written a book with her plans to “fix it” for working folks. Actual plans but all we got was “Hillary bad” presented so that half the population just accepted that as the teevee was being bombarded with GOP and Russian bullshit.

Primary him and all the “buzz” gives cable teevee more shiny objects to fling into the airways but that won’t change a thing because all these GOPers and the GOP pretenders are the same and intend to take everything away from the populace and run off with it. Nobody can stop the Republicans and people need to be reminded repeatedly that they created whatever outcome there is in their lives with their votes.

Pay attention folks as this country’s institutions and our reputation abroad are being intentionally destroyed just like Russia and the American anarchists want it. We may not be able to re-establish any of them. A pity.

Evangelical Christians fell all over themselves supporting Reagan. That’s about the time that the Moral Majority got the Religious Right going in a big way. The organization names and faces have changed over the years, but a lot of the RR activism began in that era.
