Discussion: Priebus Says Trump's Claim That Press Is 'The Enemy' Should Be Taken Seriously

to repeat a post from last night
Can we please dispense with the fiction that Trump fired Flynn or ask
for his resignation. Trump reluctantly accepted Flynn’s resignation
which was forced by others (Pence, Bannon or ??) only after they agreed
to give him back access to his twitter account. In the parlance of
baseball, Flynn was traded for a tweet to be sent later.

So much for Priebus being one of the Republicans who’ll “restrain Trump”; he’s all on board the Trump train now for all history. But at least it runs on time…

Well that’s the thing—we learned about these character types in our schoolyard days. Some of us decided we didn’t ever want to be either of them. Others are clearly more flexible about it. Fucking Reince. Contemptible.

Progressives and independents aren’t considered real Americans in the Trumpire. They just haven’t figured out where to send the “non-believers” yet :stuck_out_tongue:

Once again a Republican has to sacrifice whatever reputation for integrity he have to remain in Trump’s orbit. We need to come up with a new verb to describe the process. Perhaps to save time, we can just say that Priebus did a full “Christie”. Maybe a half Christie with a gainer? I am not up on diving terms, someone help me out.

Is this a right of passage? Given Trump’s particular mental framework, dominance is everything, and he can’t trust anyone that does not abase themselves to him. Engaging publicly in demeaning acts is how you show him you are loyal. The dynamic seems similar to how gangs require potential new members to commit a crime before they are accepted into membership.

THERE WERE NO RUSSIANS AT WATERGATE!!!

So, in terms of national security, which is worse?

RUSSIAGATE OR WATERGATE?

I know, right? He is so much a creature of the milieu he consciously put himself in, unlike, say, Bannon, who practically radiates evil as if he had a radioactive lump of cobalt for a heart. (Insert Dick Cheney joke here.)

Every time I find myself edging toward feeling a smidgen of a hint of sympathy for this guy, though - all things being relative - he comes out with something like this, so against the principles of our country and constitution and democratic way of life.

I used to wonder why he ended up working for a major political party instead of the mob, but I suspect in his new job that’s a moot point.

Hey Reince… take THIS seriously.

Priebus has none to start with, which made him highly qualified.

FIFY…he deserves nothing less. More…hell yes.

cool! make a loop out of that and insert one end in the other…

We need to come up with a new verb to describe the process.

Josh came up with a perfect term back during the primary:

“Dignity wraith.”

Granted, it’s not a verb…

Four Techniques for Manipulating the Media
This is how a tweeting wannabe tyrant plays.

  1. Berate the media and turn the public against it.

  2. Limit media access.

  3. Threaten the media.

  4. Bypass the media and communicate with the public directly.

Did they ask him to detail the so-called “mess that [Moi, Le Roi Soleil] inherited?” Did they ask him about the absurd claim that the Administration’s first month has ACTUALLY, IN REALITY, run “like a finely tuned machine?”

I mean, not, you know we had some turbulence, but we are doing ok…not…hey, we are not perfect… but “everything is actually running perfectly, like a fine tuned machine…” They should ask Trump shills about those things when they are giving credence to the notion that reporting on the amateurish disarray of the Trump White House and Administration is some affront to the country.

That’s what makes Reince so contemptible—in short, he knows better. We’d be shocked at how scurrilous the press of the founders’ day was, and yet they considered it essential to the new system and wrote it into the law. Reince knows that perfectly well, he knows the damage the essentially evil people like Trump and Bannon are doing, and he goes along with it, which is a much greater evil and betrayal.

Well, I for one am surprised he survived the weekend in his role in the WH. I honestly believed he would have been gone on Friday by sundown. Maybe this is his penance for whatever sins he committed: to go on the Sunday morning shows and exclaim there’s no there there and that whomever says there’s a there is a low-down dirty liar and shouldn’t be paid attention to.

But here’s the thing: Where is Priebus making this statement? On a Sunday morning televised talk show, which is part of the Press. Hypocrisy, much? They want to hate the Press, but they cannot survive without it. Look at any news website on line and tell me how many stories are NOT about the administration and one can see the irony of all of this.

The only answer is to stop with the constant coverage. If the press is hated, then stop the coverage. Period.

Assume for the sake of argument that “the press” is lying. How do they agree on what lies to print? Is there a secret meeting somewhere? It’s rather odd that dozens of sources could print the same lie.

This is a conspiracy theory that rivals one about the fake moon landing.

So the press - and anyone who aids or comforts them - are bigly treasonous traitors?

Good-bye, First Amendment. It was nice knowing you.
