Discussion: Presidential Candidates React To Orlando Nightclub Shooting

In some quarters, real men and tough guys aren’t supposed to have emotions, much less show them.

Yes, Trump and the rest of the RW will be screaming “Muslim” and “terror” and all the rest, but I have not seen one of those motherfuckers express any sympathy for the victims. And how can they? After all, even though they don’t want to admit it, the victims are of a group that has been demonized by the RW far longer than anyone else that they hate. And I can guarantee, even though the supposedly “rational, moderate” Republicans and Christianists will say “tsk’tsk” and “oh, dear”, they could really care less about what happens to me or any other gay person (just search around on social media - I am not going to link to this filth, so do it on your own - and see some of the things being said by their followers; as far as they are concerned, the shooting deaths of gays is as troublesome to them as the fumigation of a house full of roaches). Does anyone honestly expect any of them to stand up and shed any tears over a bunch of dead faggots and dykes? How many of them were incensed when Dylan Roof murdered a church full of black people? All you heard about afterwards from them was how this proved that people in America needed more guns, not about the virulent strain (and stain) of racism that still exists in this country, and how it was the root cause of the shooting in the first place.
So what’s going to happen? How long before some asshole on the right starts spouting that if the people at the bar hadn’t been living their satanic chosen lifestyle they wouldn’t have been targeted? (yeah, that excuse really helped those black churchgoers in Charleston when Dylan Roof came to call). How does the great Christian army condemn a terrorist killing gays when a lot of them have always had the same fantasy (and if you don’t think that is true, then you are being very naïve or have been asleep for the past 2000+ years).
This is a tragedy of the utmost proportions, but all I see the MSM and the RW politicians doing is focusing on Islamic hatred of gay people, which should be pointed out constantly, but when are they going to finally admit, on national television, to the entire nation, that Christian persecution of gay people hasn’t been much different? How much of the shooter’s actions were not only influenced by radical Islam, but also by the RW Christian hatred going on forever, especially recently with their meltdowns over same-sex marriage and trans rights? Who’s going to be the on-air personality who is going to start saying this? Rachel? Thomas Roberts? Anyone who has a bigger audience, perhaps some nighttime anchor who has finally found their Edward R. Murrow-sized balls? I don’t hold out much hope. And why is it still a fact when a terrorist act is committed by a person with a Muslim name or in the name of an Islamic organization, every Muslim organization in America is expected to apologize for the actions of someone that they could not even possibly have known, yet when an act of domestic terrorism occurs and it is associated with someone’s brave, true Christian beliefs and ethics - bombing an abortion clinic, or beating up gay people, or trying to stop same-sex marriage, or any other action tacitly condoned by the religious right - I never see anyone asking the Pope or the head of the Southern Baptist Association about how they need to defend themselves because of the actions of their crazier followers? Funny how that works.
I actually read a post from some Teabagger asshole troll on another site saying he was ashamed of not seeing more gay Americans condemning these attacks from these “fucking Arabs”. Why would we condemn them for being Islamic? We have been attacked by just about every fucking religion in the world (well, I don’t remember too many anti-gay Buddhists, though). It’s par for the course, which is why when this story first broke I, and I am sure a vast number of other gay people, automatically thought the shooter was probably some RW Christian nut, and why wouldn’t we? There was a very famous quote from the late, great Muhammed Ali (he was a Muslim, too, so maybe I shouldn’t quote him since his words and actions can’t be trusted) that he made after refusing to serve in Vietnam, where he basically stated that he had never been called a “ni**er” by the Viet Cong. I can identify with that because, despite the fact the shooter in Orlando was Muslim, and perhaps even an Islamic terrorist, as a gay man the persecution and discrimination suffered by me and others in the gay community hasn’t been caused by the actions of some terror cell from Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia or Iran. It’s has been caused by the blind hatred of those sweet American Christians - you know, the ones who constantly scream about how they “hate the sin, but love the sinners” while they are beating one of those supposed “sinners” over the head with a baseball bat.
Sorry about this possibly incoherent rant, but this just pisses me off to no end. My personal conclusion is there will be an ongoing screamfest about Islamic terrorism and nothing said about the constant and endless demonization of gay people in America. And even if this is an act of Islamic terrorism, I wonder how different the reporting and reaction of this story would have been if the shooter had entered the Orlando bar, guns blazing, dressed in the vestments of a Catholic priest. How many in the MSM and RW media would be shouting “Vatican terrorism!”
Yeah, I wonder.

The time for platitudes is past! It’s time for action!

Call your congress person and senators, bust their phone lines. Write them, demonstrate we have had ENOUGH of these senseless killings because they are too afraid of the gun lobby to pass smart comprehensive gun laws.

VOTE!

The 9th circuit court just ruled that the second amendment does not give a person the right for carrying concealed weapons. That’s a start.

Let’s go!

A message from Republicans:

We mustn’t politicize it! It’s just too early to talk about this [ insert latest massacre here ] “incident.”

dommy, this was poignant and powerful, and so fucking on point. I was sitting hear reading this, while in a moment of introspection, and I realized that I’m not doing enough to help my friends find equality. I can be as indignant as I want to be, and cry for all the victims, but it means dick in helping them achieve what they so deserve…to be wholly accepted. It’s time I started advocating for them. I think back to then Senator Obama’s words in his 2004 speech when he said something like, and I’m going to butcher it with my paraphrasing, but here goes–he basically said that when someone, who is not like me (in my case, white and heterosexual), gets discriminated against, that infringes on my civil liberties too. That we are all in this fight together. So, yeah…I’m going to do more. Thank you for holding a mirror up to me, even if it was un-intentional.

And, please know, and I’m aware that these words may ring hollow, but I wish, like nothing else, that I can take the pain of the discrimination you have felt away.

“Mateen’s father, Mir Seddique, told NBC News that the incident “has nothing to do with religion.” He said that his son was angered a couple months ago when he saw two men kissing in Miami and thinks that it may be related to the shooting.”

It might not be his religion as the gop/bags, right-wing pro nra nuts are hoping for, but it’s definitely a terrorist act, anti-gay, hate crime.

Well said dommy! I thought that needed repeating.

Right on cue, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick of Texas sends a tweet blaming the gay victims in Orlando for their own fate. Of course, he immediately deleted it, thinking that Baby Jesus will erase it from the memory of the Internet.
And “alleged Senator” Rubio needs to have his balls smashed. What a fucking moron.
I am really waiting for Obama’s words on this tragedy, because if there is anyone who can put this into a sane perspective, it is him. No drama, no screaming, no hysteria - just the facts, and hopefully a subtle underlying “fuck you” to all religious fundamentalism.

REPUGS kept/keep us save, even W did not have Muslims shooting Americans in America on the other hand the Democrats diluted The Patriot Act and this is the result.

NRA if the Drag Queens had guns this would not have happened.

Trump has a new tweet:

Meanwhile, presumptive Republican candidate Donald Trump has said he is “praying for all the victims and their families”.

Horrific incident in FL. Praying for all the victims & their families. When will this stop? When will we get tough, smart & vigilant?

Apparently Trump plans to back a ban on assault weapons (tough), limit who can obtain firearms (smart), and stop people who are carrying firearms in public (vigilant). Sorry, just kidding. Trump is going to try to spin this as a terrorism problem when it’s actually an availability of firearms problem.

I cannot wait for Donald Trump, Wayne La Pierre, Larry Pratt, and the entire GOP to stand up and proclaim what a great country America is, since a Muslim terrorist has just as much right to stock up on and use automatic weapons as any RW Christian terrorist. And especially when it’s done in the name of “religious freedom”. Heaven forbid that a bigoted religious person should be prevented from exercising their God-given right to blow people away that they don’t like, even if it is only because they have “icky” sex.
By God, you can almost smell the freedom, can’t you?
I just saw that Chuckie Todd shut down Bernie Sanders on MTP because Sanders was trying to “politicize” this shooting by pointing out the problem of guns in this country. Yeah, Chuckie, the fact that the RW jagoffs have been using the shooting to further their Islamophobia and anti-gay hatred is just fucking fine and dandy, right, Chuckie? That’s not “political” in the least, right, Chuckie Boy?

I was hoping Obama would not have to speak to the nation about yet another horrific shooting. There probably will be more before the end of his term.

Thanks for posting that. I was so enraged when I wrote my comment that I completely forgot.

Well, he tried to shut down Bernie – tried and failed.

Agreed that Todd is useless and always take the convenient position. But the headline misstates what actually happened. Todd wondered about ever having conversations about guns where “versions of events” didn’t become politicized. This statement allowed Bernie to give a full, thoughtful, knowledgeable response, and to his credit Bernie did not fall back on the meaningless thoughts and prayers thing.

pretty sure the “appreciate the thanks for being right” is an “I told you so”. Nothing about unity. Look it is clear that the asshole who did the shooting chose his target to try to divide us with fear and bigotry. We let him do that he wins.
