I might be a little crazy here, but those of us that are married, how many know the deep details of our spouses work? I know in general, and when someone pisses her off (usually for several days after I know when someone pisses her off). But the ins and outs, nitty gritty details? Not really.
And if she doesn’t want to share it with me? My wife spent $25,000 on a motorcycle (for me ) without me knowing until the day it was delivered.
This could backfire on Ayotte, with voters, especially women voters.
Uhhh, guys, food for thought: When there’s a strong, powerful woman on the top of the ticket who is being maligned for her husband’s misdeeds, its probably not a good idea to malign another strong, powerful woman for her husband’s misdeeds. At some point, it starts to look like you’re blaming women for their husbands’ behavior. What’s next, honor killings?
So the husband doesn’t violate non-disclosure agreements in tenure contracts about a firing to the public and that is suppose to reflect badly on Maggie Hanssen how?
TPM has a bad habit of not stating who is in the picture at the top of the article. Many times you can infer who it is, but it is not always clear.
Also, this article uses the name “Schubart” without explaining who it is. It is implied that he is the abuser, but not explained.
Shoddy journalism.
2nd graf, second sentence: Who is “Schubart?” Is that the last name of the teacher forced to resign for sexual misconduct?
Does he have a first name?
Apparently, the New Hampshire Republican Party still thinks that women are mere extensions of the male head of the household, rather than separate persons in their own right.
And they also feel/assume that her husband should discuss sexual misconduct of a former employee in pillow talk fashion.
Weird.
WTF?
Something happened 5 years ago at the College her HUSBAND runs and somehow that is HER FAULT?
Now, I know Republicans think that poor little women are just the property of their Husbands and only exist to support HIM in HIS endeavors, but even those misogynists should realize that a wife sure doesn’t have any input or influence on what the Husband does in his day to day job.
Mine sure doesn’t and I have no input or influence on HERS either.
This is pretty weak sauce and damning by association.
It’s an AP story with an AP byline. Maybe the TPM editing intern sliced out the paragraph identifying Schubart, which would indeed be an error.
I agree that TPM protocol for photos is lacking. All photos should be both properly sourced (usually/always they are, it’s a legal thing) and CARRY A CAPTION!!
Try to connect these dots: GOP => facts => logic => talking points.
QED
Well given that the GOP doesn’t employ facts or logic… should we substitute step 2 in the underpants gnome plan instead?
let’s see now, Hillary Clinton is somehow responsible for her husband’s activities while he was president, and now this woman is supposed to bear some responsibility for her husband’s actions as the principal of this prep school? ok, see, this isn’t how the concept of “personal responsibility” works, or are republicans in general just too stupid to realize this?
Having lived and taught school in New Hampshire I can tell you that what goes on at a private academy is not on the radar of most Granite Staters. Schools like Phillips Exeter Academy cater mostly to out-of-state, well-heeled families that have little in common with New Hampshire residents. In fact, there is, in some instances, palpable resentment towards these “foreigners” who drive luxury sedans bearing New York and New Jersey license plates, and often appear impatient with the slow-paced, Northern New England life during their infrequent visits to see Muffy and Chip.
If Kelly Ayotte needs to rely on this sort of distraction to overcome Hassan’s challenge, then she is in more trouble than the GOP realizes.
This!!!
I don’t see anyone blaming the male candidates for their wife’s messes.
Ex. Bernie’s wife ran a failed school. Trump’s wife is his 3rd, and likely required an H1B Visa to marry Trump, as he had to go offshore to find someone who’d take that job. Cruz’s wife was an actual freaking Goldman Sachs (evil vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity) VP for crying out loud!
Yet no one really blames the husband for what the wife did.
But the husband does something shady? TOTALLY the wife’s fault. It’s hung around her neck like a scarlet letter. It’s such BS.
I sure hope that happens for HRC’s sake, but at the moment I’m not so sure. Granted, the GOP has had a couple decades to try and flog their case against HRC while they only have months* with Governor Hassan.
*I’m not sure how long this line has been running locally, since the article is mostly based on dueling national press releases.
I’m guessing the latter, otherwise we’d have a Mrs. Gingrich or Mrs. Hastert running as candidates.
Ok. If you want to go there, how about we raise you a Denny Hastert?
Ayotte used to be NH Attorney General, responsible for all kinds of close decisions on prosecutorial discretion, civil punishments, big-money transfers. Those decisions by she herself ( not her spouse) deserve some examination.
Yes. Rick Schubart. Taught 38 years. (Misconduct was about 37 years ago.)
