Discussion: Pregnant Dem Denied Request For Proxy Vote In Caucus Elections

Discussion for article #230183

This really isn’t hard, Ms. DeLauro. If the situation is “meritorious” then you give the waiver. Thanks for giving the opposition some “War on Women” ammo.

That’s a pretty low rent thing to do…

So which side of the debate over the chairmanship is Rosa de Lauro on? And which side is Tammy Duckworth on? Wouldn’t we like that information here?

“Compassionate Conservatives” right there.

What a scummy thing for someone to do.

That’s a really bad joke but since it demonstrates the emptiness of the gop aspirin argument I guess it’s okay!

Just one more reason to say to hell with these jackasses.

She lost both legs in service to her country, is restricted from traveling on advice of her doctor and is 8 months pregnant and they won’t give her a fucking proxy waiver? that’s un-american.

If men got pregnant, the rules would be different.

OK Martin, you win the thread.

If men got pregnant, there would be free abortion clinics on every street corner.

No proxy votes means no proxy votes. They have to go through whatever process it is for the rules to be changed. Should the rule be changed to allow for proxy votes in certain situations and set a standard for granting the proxy votes that would have allowed her to vote this time? Yep…I’m not in any way saying they shouldn’t or that this isn’t an opportunity to gather the consensus to change them. BUT, until then, this is much ado about nothing and the only people feeding the GOPers/Teatrolls anything are news sites that even bother to publish a story on it.

If men got pregnant I bet birth stories would be a lot shorter

Daily Caller’s already running this non-story with the Headline, “Look who’s suppressing voting now”.

P.S. I actually kinda know Tammy D. because she was in my reserve unit as a cadet.

This is crazy. Should a triple amputee pregnant Congresswoman 's constituents be denied representation because of a rule? Perhaps the Congresswoman should show up in an ambulance.

Most groups have provisions for suspension of the rules if a supra-majority – say 80% of the group agree.

Not Funny - and kinda sick to have to make a bad joke out of this issue. Ask, instead why don’t you, “how could a man with no legs get a woman pregnant”. Or - maybe your imagination just isn’t that flexible.

If Tammy could travel perhaps giving birth in the Congresswoman DeLauro’s office might be appropriate?? (said in snark mode)

Aw heck, why not just prohibit voting in Caucus all together? I mean, who needs democracy?
