I know this is a big fucking deal in the RCC…but I just can’t see how making Saints out of modern day men we all remember as somewhat flawed (pedophile priests being moved around parishes to avoid culpability by both of these “Saints”), is a sound recipe for claiming these men were above reproach in every way as it relates to virtue. I thought that’s what being a Saint was all about. Pope Francis disappoints me on this one, not that he should care what I think.
I like the better method of waiting a few hundred years to see how both of these men’s reputations shake out.
Total claptrap bs baloney.
Roman emperors used to declare themselves and family members to be demigods. This essentially just continues that tradition.
If you wait a hundred years, no one is around who remembers anything, so it’s a lot easier to just make up whatever history suits you. Doing it contemporaneously seems a bit problematic to me. Of course, the idea that a bunch of guys sit around and elect the Pope who is then infallible, and that previous deeds are later determined to be miracles (if it wasn’t obvious at first…) are some serious flaws in the whole narrative.
“pristine features”? Yeah…like the Crusades, the Inquisition, the denial of science in the time of Copernicus and Galileo, and in more modern times the child abuse going on even as i write these words…those kinds of “pristine features”?
It seems to me (and I could easily be wrong about this) that making these guys saints is meant to entertain the masses and to make the church to seem to be a more powerful institution.
In reality there are a lot of nasty unseemly things behind the curtain.
Agreed. And another 20 characters.
Well, the Poles will be thrilled to death. They should be doing the Happy Dance to the max. I dunno. Weren’t there supposed to be some miracles attached to sainthood? Did I miss the miracles?
Tens of thousands of raped childen, however, are skeptical of their sanctification.
“Above reproach in every way” is not how the Church defines sainthood.
I was actually starting to like this guy – but sainthood and miracles is such bullshit hocus locus that Pope Franky has to be a mental stooge. Pathetic that this shit carries any weight whatsoever in the 21 st. century.
When you are revealed standing naked, you have to DO something about it.
Of course it’s a coverup.
The RCC is a club and can give little medals to whomever they wish. Who cares?

Dude, he’s the freakin’ Pope. What about the organization he leads isn’t hocus pocus? It’s all about magical thinking.
He’s the A #1 Magical Thinking Daddy for a billion people who think magically, including a self-flagellating sharia-law advocating fascist on our Supreme Court
That doesn’t make him a bad person. As long as he’s leading the magical thinking crowd to truly understand their own economic plight rather than using that magical thinking to convince people to support issues that are against their own interests, I guess we should be satisfied that it’s as good as it gets.
