Discussion: Pompeo: Border Crisis Will Not Tarnish US Reputation As ‘Beacon Of Hope’

Talk about freudian slips. “I don’t think he would take any umbrage with that” literally means “he would be fine with that”.

Oh no, stealing your children and refusing to let you apply for asylum won’t tarnish that reputation at all. Not to mention creating thousands more undocumented immigrants by revoking the legal status that they’ve had for many years. Or calling immigrants animals and their countries shitholes. Or deporting upstanding members of society. Still a beacon of hope for Norwegians!

the world continues to see the U.S. as a “beacon of hope, democracy and freedom”

Neither does Trump…and therein lies the problem.

“Make no mistake, President Trump agrees Russia interfering in our election is something they simply cannot do,” Pompeo said, referring to the upcoming midterm elections. “I don’t think he would take any umbrage with that.”

take umbrage (at something)
to be offended by something that someone has done or said, often without good reason

Translation to comprehensible English: "I don’t think he [Trump] would be offended by Russia interfering in our election.

It’s easy to see how Mike Pompeo has earned the sobriquet ‘Mucho Pomposo’.

Asserting that America’s history as a humanitarian country will outweigh the separation optics, he said: “I have the amazing blessing of being the foreign minister for the most generous nation in the history of civilization.”

Dude is taking credit for what others have achieved, oh wait he’s a Republican, never mind.

erm, last I looked, the job title was Secretary of State. Did I miss the part where we became a monarchy, somehow?

“Tarnish”?

Too late, Secretary Pompous. Our reputation has done rusted through and been placed in the global recycling bin.

That’s some great doublespeak there.

Caging babies and children and ripping them from the parent’s arms won’t tarnish the US reputation?

BS. I call BS,

Now, now, let’s not get fowl…

Can’t tarnish the beacon if it’s already snuffed out, champ.

This is the “smart” one in the administration?
OH WAIT! OMG I think I get it.

“I have the amazing blessing of being the foreign minister for the most generous nation in the history of civilization.”

He’s speaking code to us. He’s telling us that he’s being held captive by a russian overlord.

Too late stupid, it already has. Big time.
