They’re boring.
Anecdata, but my 89-year-old MIL who wakes up in the morning and falls asleep at night watching Fox News spends much of the day online, judging by the emails I receive. In fact, at least among folks I know the 65+ group are the most avid emailers, often of links to their favorite online pundits. I suspect that an Internet poll is going to get a broader demographic than robocalls.
Proving that “press coverage” and objective reporting of facts are two different things, and that what actually passes for true journalism is a small fraction of an industry that subsists on speculative opinion and sensationalist distractions.
Both of which Trump can generate ad infinitum at very low production cost.
Trump still in the lead and growing followed by also rans Cruz, Carson and Fiorina. I freaking love it. More popcorn please.
What this really means is that the 25% or so of Republicans who support Trump are the 25% “base”; and that 25% are crass, ignorant and certifiable as psychopaths .
Lincloln, Teddy Roosevelt and Eisenhower must be rolling over in their graves with the actions and words that come from Republicans of today. Even Nixon and Gerry Ford would not recognize the Republican Party of today.
Where they belong. In quite a number of ways those guys are worse news than Trump.
The news just keeps getting better and better for the Democratic Party!
My mother who never used a computer when she was working. She always used an electric typewriter. Is now on her iPad more than I am.
Or William F. Buckley Jr.

23% of the republican electorate are totally whack. the republicans are out of control. they can no longer have an intelligent, civil, conversation on virtually any topic.
Trump didn’t win the debate, just ask Andy Borowitz

Trump Fails to Back Up Misogynist Slurs with Anti-Woman Proposals, Rivals Say
I read a post at Digby a few days ago about Bob Dole being asked about today’s GOP and he replied that he had no idea what they are now.
I thought that was epic.
Despite what all the pundits say (including Nate Silver), Trump could juggernaut his way right to the convention. With this huge field of candidates, no one will amass enough delegates to stop him. What if he gets there with 30% of the delegates…but the next highest portion is only 15%? How do they broker that clusterfuck without either giving him the nomination or pissing him and his supporters off so much that he goes all 3rd party on their asses? Either way, it is an epic gift to the Democrats, who have problems of their own, but nothing like this. As ye reap, so shall ye sow, GOP. Sow sorry! LOL!
This is great news for conservatives and the Republican party. Nobody epitomizes and articulates the social, religious and fiscal values of modern American conservatism better than Donald Trump. He has tapped into the political expectations of conservatives in this crowded field. He is a flamboyant and charismatic communicator who is better than Ronald Raven. He is smarter than William Buckley, William Kristol and George Will combined!! Only Nancy Raven would be able to beat him if he weathers this spat with the Republican elite and the New York conservative media establishment.

On it rages!
“The fire still burns, but the fire is now contained,” said Alex
Castellanos, a veteran GOP strategist. “He can’t grow. He has condemned
himself to be a protest candidate, not a serious candidate for the
Republican nomination. That means we now move forward to a more normal
debate.”
[*AKA: Wishful Thinking vs The Reality of what they’re facing. Castellanos should have clicked his ruby slippers together to make his wish come true.]
vs
“I have a LOT of money, and I’m not getting out. I’m not going away. I’m going to win,”
Trump said. “You watch: When this campaign is over, I win. As good as
I’m doing — and I’m leading the polls — it’s just the start.”
rotfl…GOOOO’ Donald! ____If the GOPigs continue to squeal and try to push you aside…ahem___pssst’…two words .Third Party!!
He’s your nuclear troll, your party’s beastial ID, Repukes…enjoy!
The GOOPS are losing about 53% of the voters in the country, that is, the women they’re trashing for their own vile means.
It might be a Trump/Cruz ticket!
I’l say the same thing I said four years ago (well, three and a half) when we were coping with the now-relative-sanity of Bachman, Cain, and Santorum: do not get too comfortable that the nut jobs are taking the lead on the other side. I mean, if this diversion ends up taking lots of GOP resources and leaves them weaker going into the general election, that is one thing. But, if Trump actually pulls off the nomination, that is a very very scary thing. Yes, it makes it that much more likely that our guy (whomever that might be) wins, but it also raises the stakes in the unfortunate circumstance that he/she does not.
Elections have a heavy element of chance in them. To start with, there is a very large portion of the electorate that would vote for a sack of potatoes with the right party affiliation, so the “real” election happens in a very narrow band of the population which can easily be swayed pretty substantially for a week or two (hence the “October Surprise” strategy). Then, there are just plain luck elements like someone has a stroke, or international incidents throw color onto the race, etc.
If a Trump v Clinton or Trump v Sanders or Trump v Biden (if he decides to join in as well) general election were 100% guaranteed to defeat Trump, I’d be cheering for him to get the GOP nomination. But, real elections are never anywhere near that certain. The wrong guy wins surprisingly often, because elections have a systemic margin of error which allows for it. A 45% chance of a relatively sane GOP president or a 35% chance of off-his-meds Trump? I’m not sure I’d pick going up against Trump with that on the line.
And, to make matters worse, there is a true civic benefit to a hotly-contested, issues-based presidential contest. We haven’t had one of those in several cycles, in large part because the GOP side have been such losers. I don’t know if there is anyone on the GOP field who might actually engage his Democratic opponent in issue-based debates rather than trying to score short-term political points at every turn, but if there were, that would be the candidate we should want with the nomination. I do know that Trump is not such a candidate. We are a party of ideas, ideas with a proven track record. We should be able to win on them, if they are in question, and having an actual debate showing that is always better for us and for the country as a whole.
John Bush is more unintelligent, deflated and uninspiring every day.
I wondered. Interesting to know.
