The flip side of this is that the likely nominee (whoever it turns out to be) has only single digit support in early September.

Won’t matter too much. Most of them have very low “no ways” but Trump has 25 % in that category. That’s GOP’ers too.

But Carson, a political newcomer, beat Trump 55 percent to 36 percent.

Everyone has an Achilles’ heel, even The Donald. Many likely GOP voters find something about him to dislike.

Point of reference, FWIW… At this point in the 2012 GOP primary, Perry was enjoying his brief spot at the head of the pack with about 30% of the vote. Romney was at about 15%. Bachmann and Ron Paul at 10%. Gingrich and Cain at about 5%. Santorum at about 2%.

September 2011

  • Top Tier: Perry and Romney
  • Second Tier: Bachmann and Ron Paul
  • Third Tier: Cain, Gingrich, and Santorum

September 2015

  • Top Tier: Trump and Carson
  • Second Tier: Bush and Cruz

This is great news. GOP base has gone totally numbskull populist (as opposed to Bernie Sanders’ supporters, who have more rational populism). That means they’ll nominate one of these two wackos, and the sane people will vote whoever the Dems put up as the GOP self-destructs. Win-win!

Oh goodness. Most Rethugs don’t like him now. His base is purely white redneck Teabaggers. They are definitely a subcategory of the right. The majority of the party are currently casting their lots at 5-10% support amongst the rest of the clown car occupants.
