Discussion: Poll: Likely Voters Expect And Want GOP Senate Takeover

Just in case anyone is getting the heebie jeebies from these polls … here is a classic Politico article from exactly two years ago - Oct 22 2012

Shorter paraphrase - Romney has won NC, very confident about FL VA, surging in IA CO, not very confident about WI, Obama’s only slim hope is to win OH !!!

“Likely voters” is akin to deciding the World Series based on “likely hits”.

Just add an extra period to your post.

And while all the things I’ve read and posited run parallel to what you’ve posted?

The GOP is ‘gaining steam’.

It’s a narrative that’s being pressed hard.
That it took a commissioned national poll to effect the required outcome–
in order to press that narrative-- says far more than the poll result.

It’s a sublime form of paid political advertising-- in a poll’s clothing.

If the Democratic GOTV efforts are effective, then the likely voter screen can be considered less reliable, and the pool of registered voters becomes the more important number. New voters, lapsed voters, etc, would not be in the “likely” category that pollsters are reporting, and they should make a big difference in many of the Senate races.

Likely voters, may I just say that you are all a bunch of fucking idiots? I hope you’ll be happy with the ruin the GOP is poised to rain down on the country since you’ve decided to reward terrible, unpatriotic behavior.

Assholes.

People are stupid. I am still having nightmares from the last time Republicans controlled congress soaring deficits, stock market crash, banking scandals, job losses in the millions… I don’t ever want to go back there again

They decided it wasn’t in their interest to “nationalize” the election. IMHO, that’s exactly what they should have done. Turn the tables and define the entire GOP in all their asshat glory.

For everyone else, let me just say that the voter turn out in early voting in Texas in urban areas is apparently WAY up.

Which is good news for us.

Seeing that Republican turn out is larger during mid-term elections, it’s quiet obvious that the numbers favor them. This is no surprise.

It’s at this point in the campaign season where I turn to the back cover of my dogeared copy of
Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.
Where, in HUGE BOLD LETTERS it reads:

#DON’T PANIC.

Well the polls say it’s a done deal and we can all forget about voting, right? The die are cast.

Nevermind the irrelevancy of national polls and other critiques noted above.

It’s almost as if the media is “reporting” polls to serve an agenda, to discourage voters who are less likely to vote anyway.

Huh. Now why could corporate media do that.

Too many Democrats are quislings who choose to run away from this president and those policies he’s helped enact which have been very good for this country, e.g. the 2009 stimulus bill which saved and created 2.5 million jobs. Instead they’re so fearful of losing an election they echo bullshit R talking points including closing borders due to Ebola and “fixing” the ACA which is working. In failing to support the administration they send a message that what Rs say about the president is correct. Nevertheless, phone polls are not worth much. People say what they think wants to be heard.

Wait…I’m a very likely voter and that LAST thing I want is a republican majority in the Senate.
These pollsters never seem to call me anyway (harrumpfff).

Republicans are counting on people not remembering what they managed to accomplish (I’m referring to the disasters you listed). They know that the memory expanse of most people doesn’t extend much further back than about 20 minutes.

People either choosing to forget or not remembering the disasters is why it’s so important that Democrats as they campaign get out the message of Obama’s accomplishments. The Dinos are spineless just trying to get or keep their ass in a seat.

“Likely” could be meaningless in a poll. There ought to be a “Most definitely will vote” category to eliminate the uncertainty. Also, no one wants to say they’re not planning on voting, but that might be the prevailing attitude on both sides.

I’m not going to play the unskewing and rationalization game. I’m just not going to do it. Fact: Dems have absolutely blown their defense of the Senate this mid-term by yet again being spineless pussies who spend their time pandering for imaginary “on the fence” votes that always end up flopping to the conservatives at the last minute because the GOP/Teatrolls sell fear and “better safe than sorry.” While Dems run around trying to scrounge up “independent” voters they’ll never ever get, their base stops running around on their behalf. It’s that simple. They need to learn to win by winning, not win by caving. Their abandonment of Obama and refusal to talk the truth about the ACA made them and him not only look weak, but dishonest. Refusal to say who you voted for is a fucking joke. People like Hagan and Pryor calling for travel bans, just because asshats like McCain, Graham and Rubio demanded them in order to increase fear about Ebola, shows a lack of fucking balls and self-confidence that discourages people from voting that should be GUARANTEED votes. Gubernatorial disasters and fuckups like Coakley only add to the despair and malaise the Dems self-inflict on their base. It’s ridiculous. Whoever is advising these people are complete fucking morons and asshats. Add in overplaying cards like the “war on women” as if the entire election can be won on one vague overarching issue, not real issue in real time that people can actually relate to, and you’ve got classic Dem failure across the board. Give the people a fucking choice, state it loud and proud and if they go with the other guy, so be it: but at least then we can say “see…we fucking told you so and you had to go learn it the hard way.”

If the GOP can be said to run on fear, the Dems simply run scared. It’s a fucking joke, pathetic and one of the biggest reasons I will never declare for them as a member of the party. Fuck them and their simpering nonsense. Stand up and make yourself heard. Stand up and defend what is right. Stand up and refuse to be bullied or cowed or convinced to capitulate just because you fear losing your powerful position in Congress and the lucrative paychecks and campaign donations that go with it. OR sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up, get the fuck out of the way and let someone else do what you’re supposed to be doing, you quasi-republican-lite sacks of shit.

The approval rating of Congress is around 15% or maybe less. Yet people will reflexively reelect whoever is currently their local representative or senator. As if this will fix anything. It annoys me to no end than people will vote against their own self interest without any thought whatever and elect republicans who have the intellectual capacity of a box of rocks (my apologies to rocks everywhere).
