Understandable that conservatives dislike him - that call for unconditional Jesus-like compassion really pisses them off - they think "religious freedom’ permits selectivity as to who they show kindness.

The US has turned into a hate filled country with people tearing on Democracy and The Constitution every day right up to the Supreme Court disrespecting the Pope is outrageous he is a man of God and his purpose is peace. I am catholic and know the constitution guarantees freedom of religion republicans insist on using religion in their policies very unamerican and anti democratic. This issue with the pope displays a crossing of a line I never thought would happen. we catholics believe he represents God on earth can’t they sit down and shut up???.

I’m not surprised by the drop among hypocritical “conservatives” (witness O’Reilly & Santorum). But I’m puzzled at the drop among moderates and liberals.
Yeah, OK, he opposes gay marriage and abortion. He’s wrong about that. I wish he weren’t. But c’mon, what were moderates and liberals expecting for him to lose 8 and 14 percent support from those two groups over the last year – the second coming of Jesus or something?
