Discussion: Poll: Clinton And Trump Almost Tie For Support From Registered Voters

Discussion for article #240426

When your hypothetical matchup has you almost losing to Trump, that’s bad news…or maybe it isn’t. Who knows this far out from the election.

I don’t believe that for a minute. Eventually this side show will begin to fade. When we get down to the nitty gritty of actually having to know something about world and domestic issues, this nut will crack. I don’t know whose getting “polled”, but this is totally bogus.

Outlier polls make for good clickbait, but don’t mean much.

If, next spring, the polling averages from diverse polls show Trump consistently on a par with Mrs. Clinton in CA and NY, I’ll take the time to be worried.

PS. Its amazing to think there is a whole cottage industry out there devoted incessantly to generating this stuff on what seems to be an uninterrupted schedule based on presidential campaigning that never seems to end.

Total narrative-manufacturing BS. As soon as the media started facing the fact that Trump might actually win the nomination, it was utterly obvious they would have to promote a “he can beat Hillary!” line. What kind of story is “GOP set to nominate unelectable loon”?

Meanwhile the MSNBC/Marist poll issued yesterday had her leading Trump by 13.

Remember the polls this time in 2011 showing Obama losing to Rick Perry?

Hillary certainly isn’t unbeatable—I believe Jeb! and Kasich would be strong opponents in a general—but the notion that she wouldn’t trounce this buffoon once a general election gets underway is ludicrous. Trump makes John McCain and Mitt Romney look like Eisenhower.

From the survey methodology of Langer Associates: “The proportion of cell phone interviews again is driven by the NHIS estimate of cell phone-only respondents; to achieve our target, 65 percent of all interviews are conducted by cell phone, with the remaining 35 percent interviewed via landline.”

I’d like to know what the political leanings are of those who still rely on landlines.

Yes, but new Clinton Rule: “The media must always attempt to bury reports/stories that could show advantage to Hillary and to give notoriety to any evidence, however flimsy, that shows her “slipping”.”

Trump’s negatives care much higher than Hillary’s and I’m wagering that a lot of Republicans will vote for Hillary if she’s paired with the Hair. Bottom line, it’s Clinton v. Bush. Trump is an interesting Barnum act, nothing more.

So yesterday polls were telling us that Rs were losing to Ds candidates across the board.
Today polls are telling us that it’s a head to head contest between the two top Rs and Ds candidates.
One can only imagine what the polls will predict tomorrow.

They can’t handle the truth, to quote a certain movie.

Told you so. And there are still deniers.

She won’t win.

Wasn’t it just yesterday TPM was running a poll showing Sec’y Clinton beating Trump 53% to 40% and undeclared candidate Joe Biden doing the same thing 56 to 38%? How things change in less than 24 hours.

It’s just the polling industry at work. Trump will win nothing, will defeat no one. It will be ultimately be HRC versus Jeb! and the concept of first woman as opposed to third bush is appealing.

It shows a close race because none of Trump’s fellow GOP candidates dare call him out on his bullshit, since they believe in exactly the same fucking things he does. Do you think Gnarly Fiorina is going to call out Trump’s 4 bankruptcies with her despicable history at HP? Or any of these grifters challenging his immigration policies? He’s not going to get away with this shit in the general, and Donald Trump can’t answer a question honestly to save his life. If he DOES win the nomination - and I personally hope he does - he will be destroyed in the general. It’s the same as Sarah Palin: her stupid base worshipped her, but her stupid base could never get her elected. Same with Trump. (and don’t believe the press. Did anyone in the press believe that Obama could ever beat that greatest American hero of all time John “Tire Swing” McCain?)
But my true hope is that the GOP panics and fucks over Trump, causing this rampant egomaniac to run as a 3rd party candidate (like Trump is ever going to honor his pledge to the GOP. What do they think, they can sue HIM like he does everyone else?).

Trump is the icon for the Ugly American. Surely even our nation of indifferent citizens and those to lazy to learn and vote is repulsed by this characture of man. I can only hope that the haters, the white supremistists and the Tea Party intellectually challenged are not enough to form a serious voting block.

The HorseRace
The “False Equivaency” between the two parties

All will affect Democratic constituencies in a number of ways. Some people will understand the bullshit and sensibly decide that Donald Trump is dangerous to the United States, opting to observe the action carefully until Election Day and then vote for the Democratic Ticket

Not everyone is rational, though, even Democrats…and this is where the MSM Machine can pick some Democratic potential voters off. The following quotes typify statements uttered by some of those picked off…

  • “I’m going Third Party”
  • “See? They’re all the same”
  • “**ck it, it doesn’t change anything”
  • “Yeah…I’ll get around to registering…yeah”
  • “Oh man! I overslept yesterday (Election Day)”
  • “Oh woe is us!! We’re all doomed! We can’t do anything”
  • “Hillary can’t be trusted. Hillary is too scripted. She’s not inspiring enough”
  • “I’m not voting for a woman”
  • “It’s just too much to fight. It’s always been that way–it always will…those on top always win”

and as many other excuses as there are under-performing voters.

“Evil Triumphs When Good Men Do Nothing”

I taught E.S.L. for years. Well, this Millennium, in which Republican MessageMen have altered the Public Consciousness, there is another kind of English, requiring another kind of E.S.L…An English in which the term “Talking Points” recognizes that dumbed-down people require verbal sludge in place of reality to process the tasks of life, especially the part dealing with deciding for whom to vote…

The “Evil Triumphs” quote can be then translated into 21st Century English thusly:

“American Politics”

Thing is, he’s doing that well against everybody in the Democratic field.

We get ourselves wrapped up in our little cocoon here and forget that the people who thought George W. Bush deserved to be reelected are still mostly out there, still just as dumb as they ever were.

Isn’t that the truth and the media knowing these poll numbers mean nothing, use them as if we should be cowering in a corner

Dumber

And more enraged and more forewarned. In 2008 many were genuinely surprised that Barack Obama got elected, which counted for the rage that the ReThuggs tapped into for 2010.
