The Klansmen 5 (the unsupreme court majority) make this choice easy. But on a serious note, maybe our republic would be better served if terms were limited to say one term of ten years or so. On the other hand, our congress is so broken, so dysfunctional, I can only imagine the chaos this added responsibility would create. Federal judge appointments are still open. This country is truly broken. And the Klansmen aren’t helping matters whatsover.
or who have relatives like say wives involved in cases you are ruleing on or judges with very close ties to people who are trying to buy our election process
Or we could just look at the decisions they write and judge the state of their sanity by the logic or lack of it. Every decision is an insight into the thought processes of a judge, and possibly evidence that they are no longer fit for their office. We just need a press that has the backbone to say a crazy judge is a crazy judge, and backbone from the other “co-equal” branches to discipline the judiciary when they make stuff up rather than interpret the constitution.
Well OK, a functioning press and politicians with backbone is a lot to ask.
Sadly, the same software and databases used to maximize the number of safe seats could be used to maximize the number of contested seats. Of course under some circumstances that could be a disaster, too, if done to one party and not the other.
How about a Supremer Court? One just above the Supreme Court that does nothing but keep the Supreme Court’s decisions in line with the law, since they aren’t or can’t.
"“shall hold their Offices during good Behavior.” is not a constitutional guarantee of lifetime tenure. It’s tradition not the Constitution that gives lifetime tenure.
