Discussion: Poll: 60 Percent Have Some Confidence In Fairness Of Russia Probe

“If Mueller does not determine illegal ties with the Kremlin but does find evidence of criminal obstruction, 52 percent of Americans think Congress should move to oust Trump from the White House, while 46 percent say Congress should not take steps to impeach Trump.”

That’s still an impasse.

This is actually fairly remarkable, considering Trump has had the stage entirely to himself for almost two years now without Mueller uttering a single word. I believe most Americans still aren’t following all this very closely.

Now, when he finally releases his “report” -in whatever form - the people on the fence are going to be shocked with the magnitude and depth of corruption revealed by Mueller. And the numbers will change to reflect that. I believe we will arrive at a tipping point, at some point.

Bravo for this post. The key is the last sentence of your first paragraph.

I love my brother very much…but he is a street cat who is not following Trump at all (except to sometimes say, “Basta ya”)

HAMMER that fucker with top-notch intel-turned-into-actionable-legal-measures…

I’m curious about the methodology of this polling. All three folks quoted are elderly. Was this done using landlines? I’m smack in the middle of the demographic, and my cell phone is quite busy rejecting unknown numbers, so I’m never weighing in on these things. But for the record: I have every confidence in the OSC investigation. Have we impeached the motherfucker yet?

They aren’t. We here do so we assume people around us are. They’re not. But when the report is released even if it’s an outline and doesn’t have juicy details, those details will be filled in soon enough. Then “they” will catch up. Except the “never anyone but trump” zombies

In the latest poll, 80 percent of Republicans and just 8 percent of Democrats say they approve of Trump.

I heard a pundit (on one of the msnbc weekend shows) state that focusing on the number of Republicans who approve of Trump is not the interesting number to watch, although it is significantly high for a president of either party. Said the number to watch was the shifts in the number who identify as Republicans, which this pundit (I don’t recall who), said was getting smaller. So the often reported 80-90% within party support - is of an increasingly smaller slice of the total population.

“60% of people have some confidence in something they haven’t even seen” seems like a pretty high number.

Do we expect that number to go up or go down once there’s actually a picture of a Courier New double-spaced document the evening news can plaster behind the anchor’s head every day? I think I would expect it to go up, not down, but I’m curious what other folks think.

I agree. And at that point there will be a distinction between those who have become cultists + lib slayers (that is, if it makes libs cry - it must be good) from the hold your nose coalition of ‘we want conservative judges’ religious right (who are not culticized), the ‘we want lower taxes’ traditional - but not paying attention republicans. What will be left - will be a relatively smaller group - and it won’t resemble the traditional GOP. More like the most fanatic teaparty + racist factions.

Very much so. Every day when you get up, rehearse this line twenty times out loud before you head out into the world.

PP fans are more than fans, they’re the early stage of a cult. They’re adopting his rabid language and endorsing his ideas: “fake news”, “enemy of the people”, “rats”, etc., and believe the press is out to get him because he’s misunderstood.

“WASHINGTON (AP) — As the special counsel investigation into Donald Trump’s presidential campaign winds down…”

I’m just gonna go ahead and call “Bullsh–!” here on AP.

Another outsized influencer is being fined for wielding that influence. FWIW Warren’s in favor of breaking up Google.

I will say this:

If the voting % of those 18-50 and the voting % of those 55+ were reversed, we would be debating types of green energy, types of student aid, types of voter protection, types of left of center SCOTUS justices., types of regulation of companies, types of environmental attention

It’s scary that where real life isn’t (on twitter) is about the only space where the sitting president appears to do anything at all, as president. Laziest, dumbest, most dangerous president ever. Oh - and completely incompetent. Example:

That border bolstering he did to “thwart the caravan” just before the election. The concertina wire… parts are being stolen and… well let’s just say it isn’t thwarting ‘the caravan.’ Aren’t we glad we are sending national reserve troops down to do this kind of work?

Just the fact that one of the authors is named Hannah Fingerhut makes it suspect.

The other day a poll stated 50% thought the probe was a witch hunt.
Now 60% think the probe will be fair.
Am I fucked up, or the polls?

The cultists - when they are appointed to ambassadorships - spread a rank stench. For example, it’s going so well in Germany…

“If a U.S. diplomat acts like a high commissioner of an occupying power, he will have to learn that our tolerance has its limits,” Kubicki said.

The Social Democrats’ parliamentary manager Carsten Schneider weighed in too, saying: “Diplomatically, Mr. Grenell is a complete failure. This entire thing seems like the behavior of a naughty schoolboy.”
