Discussion: Police Who Shot 12-Year-Old Tamir Rice Did Not Give Him First Aid

Sad but true. Very unfortunate.

Exactly. That’s why they shoot to kill NOT injure.

I would call them heartless pigs but that would be an insult to pigs.

There is little evidence that most cops are good people. Especially of late.

Good point, I agree, but cops are a necessary “evil” in a way. The anarchy we’d have if we did not have cops would be unimaginable.
IMO there are mostly good people who become cops, but the police training, and the job corrupts many people who are beat cops unfortunately.

I haven’t known enough cops over the years to characterize one way or another from personal experience.

But since the bad cops are always, always, always defended by the “good” cops they are all tainted in my book. The exceptions are so rare that they make movies about it.

I’ve heard all the reasons why that is; I don’t care. If you defend bad people just because they’re in ‘your group’ you demonstrate that you are cut from the same cloth, and where your sympathies lie.

I have met some decent cops over the years who did not make much of an impression on me just doing their job. Their corrupt power mad murderous perjuring brethren sure as hell did.

and even if they said it once – there was no time for the kid to actually comply. When I first heard about this I thought it might be somewhat justified because the report was that the child was waving it around at a lot of people. I thought they saw an imminently dangerous situation and had to respond quickly. But then I saw the video and there was no one nearby at all and they clearly shot without giving any warning or giving Tamir Rice a chance to put down the “weapon.” (and the person who called it in apparently said he thought it might be a toy. He did the right thing calling it in, but I bet he feels terrible about what happened).
I also blame manufacturers for making “toys” that look like serious weapons. We probably can’t get laws passed to stop them, but they should use better judgment in what they decide to produce.

ah, but cameras can report what happened.

When I was around this kids age back in the early 70’s in suburban NYC I used to take my Daisy BB gun out in our backyard to shoot cans or down the block to the neighborhood park with friends to shoot at trees in the wooded area. If the cops came by they just told us to go home. There was no overreaction whatsoever.

No, I came to believe cops shoot and blatantly lie about the circumstances. I feel so much pain for all these families… Are we under police occupation? The disregard for life is chilling. The lack of compassion and empathy devilish. It seems police departments throughout the country have decided to hire psychopaths. Enough is enough.

I see you’re not gifted at reading between the lines/letters. No reference to whom Protection/Service is intended.

I was talking about this case with my family over the holiday. The ole “big black guy” meme came up. My mother mentioned that folks often said things like “don’t mess with her, she’s married to a big black guy” or “her husband is a big black guy.” My dad is 6’2 and has never weighed more than 185. At that time, he probably weighed about 175. Picture President Obama on a diet. Anyone who finds him scary or big needs to just go in the house and never come out again.

Until we showed him the video, that’s exactly what my father said too. I also thought it might’ve been a fair, but very unfortunate shoot. The video changes all that. Not only may have been well within his rights had it been a real gun, but they gave him absolutely no opportunity to comply. If this isn’t murder, I really don’t know what is.

Bingo. I don’t get it either. Does it not occur that protecting and justifying the behavior of bad cops is what gets good cops killed? It’s why they can’t get witnesses to come forward and help them get bad guys off the streets. Good cops who protect bad cops are as dangerous to society as bad cops.
