When I was 15 I got a job working for a guy (meanest SOB alive at the time) digging ditches, fixing roofs, cleaning pools and pumping gas in the evenings and weekends. I am willing to bet that my voluntary work experience was a damn sight more punishing then his “punishment”.
Does anybody know what the statute of limitations is on such things? If it’s already passed, then it should be extended. Also, can the parents be charged with obstruction of justice?

Sexual abuse is a terrible thing that causes long-term damage at whatever age it happens, but to a five-year-old, that’s unspeakable. And these people never dealt with it in any serious way, and they burble about forgiveness as if the only thing that matters is what they think Jesus thinks. They just won’t think seriously about this. I’m sorry, I try to at least be tolerant about religion, but this is using it as an excuse not to deal with a very serious real-world problem.

The ridiculous part is that what this all adds up to is that this guy never got the help and treatment he needed for a couple decades because his fucking family is so insanely bonkers in the first place. His mother and father and various people they came in contact with who DID NOTHING put other little girls in danger because of their unwillingness to admit what their son was, what was wrong with him and force him into the treatment he needed and teach him accountability for what he’d done. It’s a lifelong problem this disease…a mental illness…and their holier-than-thou PRIDE exacerbated the situation.
My guess is that his little heart to heart with the state trooper who then ended up in jail for 50+ years for child porn was more about how not to get caught than it was about “dont do that again”.

Reading what you linked, I certainly could imagine it gaining ground in white southern rural fundamentalist circles particularly in the face of the demographic shifts that have those folks so utterly apoplectic and the higher minority reproduction rates that partly underlie those shifts. “We gotta win the Baby Race War!!!”

This was actually inadvertently revealed by the family themselves earlier. The court order asking for Josh’s police report to be destroyed said that the victim they were asking on behalf of was still a minor, and since this all occurred 12 years ago, the oldest she could have been then was 6.
