Discussion: Police: Rancher Lassos Bike Thief Outside Oregon Wal-Mart

Yippee ki-yay mother fucker. Sort of surprised he didn’t hogtie the guy too.

Huh? How fortunate that the horse had it’s tack on and adjusted for riding while in the trailer…

I was kind of wondering about the timeline too. Getting a horse out of a trailer? You can bike pretty far, I’d imagine. But the bike thief picked a bike with complex gears?

Oh, well. Great tale. Maybe just a tad tall?

So this is what I have to do to catch (or be caught by) my cowboy man – resort to stealing bikes in Walmart parking lots? I must be doing something wrong. LOL.

The most fascinating part of this story is the sense of humor implicit in his horse’s name.

Not a bad skill to possess. Safer than tasers or billy clubs, I imagine.

I love the horse’s name. Gee, I just wonder … LOL.

This is a local news story and not a tall tale at all. There’s plenty of cowboy types around here, so the story does not surprise me, although it’s pretty damn funny. Depending on the kind of trailer you could get a horse out and running rather quickly.

No need to thank me, ma’am. Jus’ doin’ mah job. Twarn’t right what he done. Any man woulda done what I done. (Tips hat, rides off into the sunset.)

I wondered about that too. And you can’t get a horse out of a trailer all that fast either. It isn’t like backing a car out of the garage. I call BS!

I’ve known plenty of folks leave the tack on if they have a short trip home, just loosen the cinch a bit, so that can be quick. But I agree about unloading, I’ve seen plenty of things go wrong trying to back a horse out.

While working, folks might transport their horses saddled and ready to go, but to do what this dude did there is no reason to think it couldn’t have been done bareback. As kids we rode bare back all the time, no halter or bridle required, grab a handful of mane and giddy up.

Edit Forgot about the roping part, that might have been tricky without a saddle, but not impossible.

Hell, this happens all the time in Oregon. Us cowboys, loggers and fishermen round up the bad guys on a regular basis. Why, just this morning I felled a tree to block the escape of a dine-and-dasher and calf-roped him with some 30lb test when he tried to run.

Shoots the NRA argument to pieces.

All you really need is a good guy with a horse and rope.

Yes, he is a working cowboy and probably had a gun somewhere, too. But he didn’t use it. Hmmmm…

Psst. Ass-less chaps. You’re welcome.
