Roach murdered Timothy Thomas in cold blood. I know/knew his former stepfather and mother. Their lives were torn apart by Tim’s death and the riots that followed.
Out of everything that happened during that time, I couldn’t get over the fact that the bars in Mt. Adams never closed despite there being a curfew. Yes, it’s a stupid thing to focus on but it enraged me that Black kids in OTR were subjected to a curfew, while rich White kids in Mt. Adams continued to get drunk and live lives of unfettered privilege.

The racism here is as deep and hidden as anywhere in the South while, at the same time, the Cincinnati metro area enjoys an open, expanding and exuberant racial/cultural mix that could once only be found 170 years ago hidden like back room opium and voodoo in riverfront taverns along lost Pearl and Water Streets in old, lower Cincinnati.
