Discussion: Police: Missouri GOPer's Aide Left Note Before Apparent Suicide

Discussion for article #234833

Maybe the reason why both men took their lives will be revealed.

I never for once thought that the MO candidate took his life because of a whisper campaign about him being a Jew, I always thought there was something nefarious that caused his actions. His years in politics and his career path would have given him a tough skin to withstand any such whisper campaign.

Blackmail plan that went astray?

Yeah, except for the fact that he spoke on the phone with someone about the whisper campaign about him being a Jew moments before he killed himself.

Yā€™know, a minor connection.

Political coverup attempt?

Whatā€™s being missed in this whole episode is the notion that this poor GOP candidate for governor killed himself because he was wrongfully accused of being a Jew. What a pathetic reason to kill yourself. Does being accused of ā€œbeing a Jewā€, when youā€™re actually an Episcopalian, warrant a death sentence? Oh the humanity! Iā€™m not defending the folks who floated the rumor but, Iā€™m sorry, the victim was a cowardā€¦

Only speculating, but itā€™s also possible this jerk made it all up about this whisper campaign, thinking it might hurt the other guy. Once it backfired, his candidate was humiliated and his career was ruined. And that ruins this jerks career too, plus the guilt factor. But speculation is the key word at this point.

Right away someone wants to blame a black maleā€¦(obviously not being serious).

Whatā€™s going on with the Republicans in Missouri?

If I were a Republican, Iā€™d probably feel compelled to off myself too.

Why do you feel compelled to call recently deceased people, whom you donā€™t know, ā€œjerksā€?

Fair point, but not sure about the ā€œWhatā€™s being missedā€ part. Just about everything I have seen written about this bizarre affair notes that itā€™s strange that guy apparently looked at being called jewish as some sort of slanderā€¦

He believed that being a ā€œJewā€ would harm him with the voters. That tells the real tale of anti-Semitism in the GOP in Missouri.

Iā€™ve wondered all along when other shoes will hit the floor ā€“ I truly did not expect another suicide. My condolences to Mr. Jacksonā€™s family and friends.

That said, now I am wondering where other bodies are buried ā€“ literally. Missouri GOP, you guys have some major skeletons in your closet. Fresh air and sunshine are usually the best astringent.

I donā€™t know, but I say to them:

Keep doing what youā€™re doing.

Therein lies the problem: Most (nearly all?) Republicans do not have ā€˜feelings.ā€™ If youā€™re the Ayn Rand/Social Conservative/Strict Market-Will-Fix-it-All type of Republican ā€“ again, most of them certainly act that way ā€“ then you are likely incapable of ā€˜feelingsā€™ (for anyone unlike yourself, that is). Very sad condition.

I see.

Being worried about being identified as a Jew, even or maybe especially in the Belt these days, seems anachronistic to me. Look at all the Jews in prominent positions. But if true as laid out, it really does say something about anti-Semitism in America these days.

OH ā€“ COLD. I agree, but ā€¦ cold.
