Discussion for article #243540
Welcome to Donald Trump’s America.
You know how you get a sense of being polluted by filth, a visceral sense of revulsion and disgust, whenever you read anything from neo-Nazis or other organized haters? I think before this is all over that filth will be reaching out into the collective awareness of the decent, thoughtful people more and more. And whenever it happens, and people are talking about it, don’t forget to say it’s been building up for a long time and the Limbaughs, Becks, and other assorted polluters at Fox are responsible. People generally don’t know, and they need to be told. This didn’t just happen. It was made to happen and we know who did it.
a/k/a the Weimer Republic.

Let’s not give Trump too much credit here. He didn’t create all the shittiness in the hearts of people who do these things, or nod approvingly when they happen. He’s just using it to propel his vanity campaign.
He’s the flavor of the moment, and he’ll flare out or get bored at some point. If anyone’s celebrating his “defeat” when that happens, they’re going to be in for a rude surprise when the next Somali restaurant or women’s health clinic or social services office or black church burns down.
You built this, GOP, unless you stop it.
Because telling people who left a country because of its intolerance to leave yours is such a bright thing to do.
True to an extent, but, unless leaders come out forcefully against it and hammer it home, it wont. get. better.
Oh sure. I’m just not holding my breath on that point.
Bored? At the prospect of being President? His ego needs fed, hourly, in large doses. Occupying the Oval Office would be a 4 year psychic orgasm for Trump. Bored? I think not.
Oh here we go. Krystallnacht is RIGHT around the corner.
That’s true he didn’t create all that shit, but what is amazing is the size of reservoir of shit in america’s collective heart. It’s way bigger than I ever imagined and I live in the south.
Trump has basically given his supporters permission to do this and many other things I have read about…by not telling them NOT to get violent. Watch the rally from last night, it was frightening.
They didn’t build it… it grew on them.
“Those who stood by and did NOTHING”
The D.C, Press Corps
The MSM in general
So-called “moderate” Republicans
These are the slime which will emerge from this muck preaching “tolerance”, “moral indignation” and “restraint”. All while Trump is the individual AGAINST WHICH their own evil seems “ordinary” and “normal”.
If there was ever a “Good-Cop-Bad-Cop” bullshit routine as effective as this, point it out to me.
Have to disagree with you there. He approved of the two guys kicking and urinating on the homeless Hispanic man in Boston, he cheered on his supporters when they kicked and beat a Black Lives Matter protester at one of his rallies. He has condoned his “security” detail attacking Hispanic protesters.
Nor is he just using what is already there to propel his campaign. He is actively mining what is under the surface,to bring it up and into the open in order to fuel his campaign. He blatantly tells lies, repeatedly even after they are disproved, specifically aimed at firing up that “hatred of the Other” in people, so its the overwhelming motivating factor in the emotional make up. And he is fully aware that he is doing it.
In Trump’s world, violence towards the “Other” is good…its means enthusiasm for him.
No argument there. He’s awful for exactly those reasons.
I’m just saying, he’s one person, and his contribution to the society’s net crapulence on that point is very, very small relative to the total that’s out there from a million other little shitty sources.
People are talking like Trump is the head of the snake, but he’s not. That’s all I’m saying. It doesn’t begin or end with him, and in a few months when we’re already forgetting he was ever a thing, nativism and externalizing evil onto the Other and all that will still be floating around. He didn’t invent it and he won’t take it with him when he goes.
I just can’t imagine what would posess someone to do this.
