The Wall Street Journal reported Monday afternoon that at least one of the gunman’s firearms was fully automatic and that his arsenal of weapons in the hotel room included AR-15-style and AK-47-style rifles.
Just as the Founding Fathers intended, no doubt.There are as many if not more firearms than people in the US, but the bulk are held by a small percentage of gun owners. We don’t fund mental health services adequately as is and the GOP at all levels is determined to slash those meager programs. It’s like littering a match factory with sticks of dynamite.
And gun stocks rose appreciably yesterday, as they do after every NRA-sponsored mass shooting incident in the USA.

“Ammonia Nitrate” should probably be “Ammonium Nitrate”.

I don’t mind collectors. I’ve known a few people who collect weapons (including, it might be added some disabled WW2 vintage machine guns), but the problem I have is that the NRA is pushing us to have a completely unregulated and unobserved gun ownership in this country. The FBI had a program which would have caught this guy. He would have been flagged for making so many legal gun purchases in such a short period of time, and yet, the NRA objected to that and had the program killed.
This was a program that would have caught ONLY mass shooters and no one else and the NRA wanted it dead. At this point, I think it is time for the victims and families of mass shooting victims to sue the NRA.

NRA/GOP wants equality so that Guns are evenly distributed among the population.
The ammonium nitrate is the variable in all of this that has me scratching my head. It feels like an outlier to the rest of the story.

How is this a “well regulated Militia?” Why do people need semi-automatic and/or automatic weapons of such lethality?

That is the ONLY reason for it. Don’t let the Gun Nuts and their lobbyists tell you otherwise.
NOBODY “needs” an AR or AK of any kind. Period. They WANT ONE. They don’t “Need” one.
ALL pistols should be outlawed among the public (only Police and Military should have them) along with all gas or spring operated weapons. They are weapons of WAR. Period.
Only lever-action, bolt-action, or pump-action long arms (minimum 16-inches breach to muzzle) should be allowed and even then you need a license and insurance just to own them. No magazine larger than 8 rounds also.
No armor-piercing ammo, no lead-ammo, no hollow-point ammo.
Don’t like it? Fuck You. Move to Somalia. You can have anything you want there.
Oh, and If you can’t hit the target with a bolt-action long rifle - LEARN TO FUCKING SHOOT.
