Discussion: Police Fatally Shoot Florida Man Holding A Stapler

Discussion for article #240903

IF, what is being reported is true, (that the suspect went inside, got his stapler and pointed it towards the deputy) then he deserved to be shot. With an armed robbery charges this is someone you can’t take chances with.

Are they sure it wasn’t Milton Waddams?

Sure sounds like Suicide By Cop.

If so, I sure hope the officer gets strong after-incident support. No decent individual wants to take another person’s life.

It sounds like suicide by cop to me as well. We have a witness who heard the guy claim he had a gun.

Yes, as others have pointed out, looks like suicide by cop.

No taser available? No attempt to disable? What is the range of a stapler, as the article implies that the cop saw a stapler rather than a gun.

I mean, because most cops are such poor shots, especially crippled by a rather inaccurate handgun, they are taught to aim for the rather large target of the torso, almost always guaranteeing major injury if not death.

Other than the above, it is Florida, which should make this a non-event.

Cops deserve a lot of the heat they get but this is one shooting I wouldn’t fault them for.

If I’m a police officer and a guy I know with multiple arrests including gun related, goes in his house, comes back out with something shiny, I’m not going to think twice about if I want to put him down or not.

It’s posts like yours that give people advocating against police brutality a bad name.

Maybe a better headline: After fatal standoff, fugitve threatening to have a gun found to be holding a stapler

No, it does not imply that at all. You made that up.
