They donât call Snohomish County âSnohomishstanâ for nothing⌠Granite Falls - land of the blue tarpsâŚwhere moss grows on the north side of sleeping dogs.
As in much of Western Washington (and Oregon), the closer you get to the Cascade Mountains the wilder and woolier the inhabitants become.
Having lived in Snohomish County for nearly half my life and in Greater Seattle for about 40 years, I can assure you that no one calls it âSnohomishstan.â This is unusual for Snohomish County in general and in these semi-rural and suburban towns in particular.
Probably 90 percent of the gun violence in Western Washington, a geographic area of several thousand square miles, occurs in the Rainier Valley and White Center areas of South Seattle. The areas with the greatest concentration of poverty and gang membership.
Oh, in pubs they do⌠and I lived in Bothellia (slogan: For a day or a lifetime - if you were stuck in traffic on Bothell Way youâd understand)âŚ
AnywayâŚ
Oh, in pubs they doâŚ
Except for the Diamond Knot Brewery in, of all place, MLT (no, the one Mukilteo doesnât count), there are otherwise no pubs in Snohomish County. That social culture stops at 205th in Shoreline.
Time to start the lottery. Do I win a prize if I guess correctly that the suspect spells his name with a full colon in the middle of it, and doesnât recognize the governmentâs authority over him?
I love Diamond Knot, especially the Industrial IPA.
Joyfully, I now live in Bavaria, although I do miss the Pacific NorthwestâŚ
Sadly, I now live in Bavaria where IPAs are non-existent and beer is good, but âsame sameââŚ
Guns in the hands of human beings equals violence. That is what guns are manufactured to produce. Dead bodies. Women, children, men, mothers, fathers, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles. Dead people. Thatâs why civilized nations ban guns in the hands of citizens.
Are you stoned or just living in an alternate reality?
