Discussion: Police: 2 Teens Accidentally Shot By Hunter Unloading Rifle Near School

You’re probably right that this “hunter” won’t face charges, but I do hope that the kids sue the hell out of this guy. The injuries they suffered won’t be easy to recover from.

Martin, it seems we have a lot of unthinking gun enthusiasts. And juries willing to let them walk.
I’m very glad I had a father who took great pains to teach me how to properly handle guns and who also worked hard to make sure I understand there are no “accidents” with guns but rather only negligence.
I’m hoping the young kids who were wounded recover fully and quickly.

Martin, here’s a story about a “hunting accident” you might find interesting:

Authorities say two teenagers were shot in eastern Pennsylvania by a man who says his rifle accidentally discharged while he was unloading it.

Where are all the “guns don’t kill people - people kill people” people on this one?

Notice this guy isn’t claiming HE accidentally discharged the gun. He’s claiming the gun did something seemingly by itself. Yet nobody’s loading the comments here sticking up for guns being inanimate.

It’s so telling how so many of the GunNuts are silent in situations like this when a gun-fool claims his gun accidentally did something. It goes against one of their biggest base bumpersticker-logic arguments… Yet they don’t swarm to refute guys like this for some reason.

A properly designed and functioning rifle doesn’t just go off by itself. Either the rifle was defective as it left the factory, in which case we might expect a rash of accidental discharges from the same make/model that might result in a recall or at least notification to the general public, it was maintained or worked on in a negligent manner, or it was operated negligently. Which do you think is really most likely? Regardless, it sure seems as if this hunter wasn’t following the “old” NRA’s rules of safe firearms handling, don’t even point it at anything that doesn’t need shooting, presume it’s loaded until you personally verify it’s not. But that was the old NRA, back when their mission statement more closely matched their public statements.

Also, consider the position they would have to be in for the bullet to go through the girl’s knee and then the boy’s abdomen.

I remember reading about a farmer who lost livestock to hunters that he painted each one of them in
bright red letters for the type of animal such as “COW”.

Obama’s fault, clearly. And I can’t believe they aren’t bringing charges against those reckless teens for restricting the freedom of this patriotic Hunter’s bullets.

Squeezed the wrong penis! Priceless…

Well you know these are well meaning white guys. They mean no harm. It’s not like they are blah people.

It’s as simple as ice hockey. You are responsible for your stick. If it touches the facial area, intentional or not, it’s a penalty and you go to the box. It should be the same for guns. There are no accidents. Guns are dangerous whether loading, unloading, transporting, or even just laying there. If it goes off, it’s your fault and you should be guilty of any damage it does.

Guns make people stupid, negligent and murderous . . . .

The “work of art” sure can’t function flawlessly if the person handling it is an imbecile.

Guns stopped being art about the time Colt invented the production line with interchangeable parts. Craftsmanship, absolutely Art? Rarely.

There must be a better way to unload a weapon.

Like, say, sitting on the ground? Girl leaning back with her legs bent, knees up, boy sitting up straight?

Of course, that would require the guy who shot them to have also been down on the ground, with the barrel of his rifle maybe a foot off the ground. I wonder how that might have happened?

Hunters are not the problem. Beating up on hunters is counter productive, assuming you want to be effective in solving the gun problem. If you just want to make this a wedge issue, you’re doing a good job.
