Once again we learn that the “news” isn’t always the truth and that “reporters” and news organizations can twist their stories to fit the narrative they want to popularize and promote. . . .you know like the midterms.

KSTP 5 (Hubbard Broadcasting) based in Saint Paul, MN is our local Disney-ABC affiliate and is well known locally as the “Yellow Journalism Channel”. This is just their version of the “Terrorist Fist-Bump” from Fox News as they will take ANY chance to disparage the Mayor of Minneapolis because she is a Liberal (gasp!) They also try every night to disparage the Chief of Police in Minneapolis because she is a Lesbian (Oh NO!).
They have a long history of outrageous, defamatory, and completely fabricated “news” stories designed solely to increase their ratings, and it doesn’t work as KSTP is a distant 4th place in the Twin-Cities TV News market behind KARE 11 (NBC), WCCO 4 (CBS), and KMSP 9 (Fox).
We have come to expect this kind of crap from KSTP.
On KSTP News has been completely replaced by “Jerry-Springer-Info-Tainment” and “Shock-Gotcha-Journalism”.
What do you expect from Disney-ABC?
BTW - Jay Kolls is a complete moron and everyone in the Twin Cities knows it. From 2006 to 2010 he was a radio talk show host at KSTP AM1500 Talk Radio. He brings that same “investigative” skill to the TV station.
He is a loyal Hubbard Broadcasting drone that was rewarded with a bump to the TV from AM talk-radio.

KSTP is owned by Hubbard Broadcasting. Stanley Hubbard is a big contributor to Koch Bother causes, they are fellow travelers, the douche reporter has worked for the station for 16 years. Apparently he’s a true believer. It’ll be interesting to see if this goes anywhere.

He’s not alone—it’s always been kind of amazing to me how being a total lunkhead somehow isn’t much of a problem for a local TV reporter. But this is pretty bad and I don’t know what’s worse—if he knows it’s BS, or if he believes what he’s saying.

So even after the fact, with the context of the photo being widely reported, they’re doubling down on this nonsense? And since Jay Kolls is standing by his story, does he feel the need to elaborate on which gang this is the supposed gang sign for? I figured since he was clear on Twitter that this was definitely a gang sign and not a gesture, he could tell us.

Forget the racism angle - it obscures what by all appearances is a coordinated effort by a major police department and a local conservative news outlet conspiring to bring down the duly elected mayor of a large US city.
Those of following Kolls on Twitter will notice that on several occasions he mentions that Gordon was arrested in September. Here’s that story: http://www.startribune.com/local/east/275230181.html

Don’t lump everybody together. Local television news reporters are in a class by themselves. I’ve known some good ones, but many are more concerned about how their hair looks on camera than whether they’re doing actual journalism.
The cops here are clearly playing this douche to get him to go after a mayor they don’t like. It might go beyond the mayor’s public criticisms. I’ve seen fights over salaries and pensions get really ugly.
This one might boomerang on the cops, though. How exactly might gestures between the mayor and somebody we have no evidence is even in a gang get somebody killed? Even if he were a notorious kingpin, how would that get somebody killed? Those are the questions the cops should be fielding.

Pointing is a gang sign? Really?
Tonight, instead of apologizing on their evening newscasts, KSTP-TV doubled down, defending their “Pointergate” report. Their news director, Lindsay Radford, should be fired immediately.
Minneapolis Mayor Hodges strongly supports police department reforms, including a body camera program that launched today. Pointergate is an effort by a certain segment of the law enforcement community to discredit the mayor, because she won’t allow them to act as judge, jury, and executioner anymore.
