Discussion: PM Vows To Pass Law Labeling Israel The Nation State Of The Jewish People

Discussion for article #230518

If this law is passed, Israel can then be suitably compared to Rhodesia with nukes.

Bibi fiddles while Jerusalem reels.

I’m as liberal as they come, but this dude is insufferable. He reminds me of the yahoos in the House who want to pass laws making English the official language of America.

If Netanyahu is for it, I’m against it. His agenda is inhumane and immoral.

I’m not sure why you think criticizing Netanyahu is an exception to being Liberal. He’s against anything and everything that a modern liberal any decent human being stands for.

In 1975, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution stating that Zionism is a form of racism. The US and Israel objected strenuously and claimed that the proponents were vicious Jew haters who lacked all decency. The resolution was revoked in 1991. It may now have to be reinstated.

I know it’s de rigueur for libs to pillory Israel, oh, sorry, the Zionist Entity at any and all turns, but no one seems to have a problem with the 22 nation states in that region proclaiming themselves as “Arab,” “Muslim” or both. A Jew can’t enter Saudi Arabia, and a Coptic Christian will NEVER be president of Egypt. Seems like the Zionist Entity fits right in.

So what does that make the 20-25% of Israel that is Arab?

Second-class?

Because the Zionist Entity is the source of all evil, right? You want the Jews* to behave so as not to antagonize Muslims, because that causes serious problems, only that can’t be admitted, hence the doubling down on the racist state of “Israel.”

*Arabic speakers make no distinction between “Israeli Jews” and “Jews” in general, hence the use of the collective noun.

What it does is take the first step in setting up the native inhabitants of the West Bank as non-citizens when Israel finally decides it’s time to gobble up the remaining bits of the West Bank that haven’t been claimed by settlements.

So, Israel going backwards there vis-Ă -vis civil rights and democratic standards is a good thing? What are you defending?

You may be correct, but I can’t for the life of me see why that makes a damn bit of difference. I thought Israel called itself a democracy? I don’t think those others do, and if so it has to be accompanied by a ‘nudge nudge wink wink’ ala Monty Python.

Cut them all loose as far as I’m concerned. We’re obviously not having much influence, and none of them do anything other than make the world a more unpleasant place for those they consider ‘others’.

Sounds like the group that wants to declare the US a Christian nation and all of that. Nothing says those not like us do not belong as a law saying that they do not.

Israeli supporters are fond of telling us that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East, the only Middle Eastern country with liberal Western values. Now you’re telling us Israel is just like Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Comment noted and accepted.

Seig Heil Bibi.

It reads just like the Nuremberg Laws of 1933.
You have now become what you most feared.

Bibi wants another seven day war.

“If anybody really believed that peace talks and security guarantees and rhetoric about one or two state solutions was ever anything more than a smokescreen for delaying tactics while “facts on the ground” were established by increments, here is the beginning of the end game. I honestly believe that they’re going to brazen it out and start their ethnic cleansing campaign in earnest before the world can get its shit together and make it more complicated for them.”

Keep your eyes open folks.

None of those nations receive the excessive funding, the armaments or the all-embracing shield of the US nor are any of those nations perceived to be acting with our imprimatur as the “only true democracy in the region”.
Rescind all of those things and ban their lobbyists from influencing our government and they can do whatever the hell they want as far as I’m concerned.
Of course, without all that, they wouldn’t have the balls to provoke as they do and the existence of the Eretz Yisrael they so desire would be very short-lived indeed.

Doesn’t this proposed change in the law also make this true for speakers of Hebrew*?

*Subject to acceptance by religious authorities.
