And Trump isn’t interfering in Chinese politics? The big goal is to “open Chinese markets” meaning no more state control. Who is Trump to start a trade war and then complain when the other side fights back fairly?

Note how they leave unsaid the reason that Chinese tariffs were applied in the first place: in response to Trump’s tariffs. This is basically a “But Mom, he hit me back first!” defense.

If China finally gets so pissed off it calls in all the debts owed to it by the US, both Trump and Pence will be on their knees ready to give China a great big hummer to prevent that from happening. Frankly, I’m really surprised they haven’t made that threat yet. They are more patient than I could ever be.
