Discussion: Pence On Central American Immigrants: 'The Exodus Must End'

Pence said relations have improved under Moreno’s leadership and noted their shared fight against international drug traffickers. He credited the new president with reversing a decade of failed policy and rooting out corruption.

Dear AP -
Was the Vice President able to say this without breaking into giggles?
Thx

If he really wants the exodus from Central America to end we will have to take strong action to end the war on drugs while empowering Central American leaders to deal with the narco gangs that dominate large sections of each of the countries. It would probably help if we did what was necessary to improve their economies. In other words, the US is going to have to do something more than build a wall.

“Tell your people that coming to the United States illegally will only result in a hard journey and a harder life,” Pence said.

Much like the Conservatives in this country, the idea is that if you don’t like what the country’s turned into, leave. Their gov’t. could care less whether you stay or go.

Doesn’t that comment apply to anyone who is on the Republican’s enemies list?

Exodus…the great migration out of Egyptian slavery and capricious autocratic control…now American leaders don’t see the irony of blocking a similar 21st century migration…

I see the real errand boy of the administration is out fetching coffee again. At least this time he’s in the right corner of the globe.

He said the Trump administration “will always welcome” immigrants who follow the rules in getting permission to enter the U.S.

As proof, he offered a list of the mistresses and wives of wealthy Russians, who come to the US to have their babies at Trump properties. This allows the children to be citizens of the US. So if you have anyone who can afford to purchase a condo in a luxury high rise, send them to us!

Mike Pence:

“This exodus must end. It is a threat to the security to the United States, and just as we respect your borders and your sovereignty, we insist that you respect ours.”

There he goes again, quoting from the Old Testament.

Mikey Dense – what a piece of work! We exported the narco-gang problem to Central America: MS-13 was born on the streets of Los Angeles.

As @ronbyers noted above, we ought to be working with the governments of Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador to solve the problems. Some economic development ought to help, as would ending the war on drugs.

And when we do economic development this time, Mikey, don’t let’s follow the United Fruit model this time.

“In the last year alone, we welcomed more than 1.1 million legal immigrants into our country and our communities, including nearly 50,000 legal immigrants from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador last year,” he said.

Hey Mikey did you ever stop and think that the people at the border are poor? And how does your Savior talk about the poor, blessed or lazy?

I tried to think of something useful to write, but then realized that sometimes there is really nothing to say about stupid.

It just stands on it own.

I think his is the supply side Jesus who thinks the poor deserve what they get and being rich is proof you are one of God’s anointed.

Well, I  liked it.

I moved it to a more relevant thread. I was in the wrong one.

I was looking for a different link for this thread that I cannot find–so I had this open. I had heard yesterday that Trump’s border policies have trapped immigrants in the US. They generally come here, work and leave, and cycle back later. But that’s interrupted and so there are 30% more immigrants here than their would be without Trump’s handiwork. But I can’t find the link.

Since when has the US respected the sovereignty of Central American countries?
