Y’all can call me all the names you want, but the truth is that if the identical situation was happening in the Republican side, then you’d all be calling for the Congressperson to resign, and pillorying the Paul Ryan for not calling for his resignation.
But I guess you think that a Congressman giving taxpayer money as hush money to women that he has sexually harassed is okay if he is a Democrat.
Well, it isn’t to this Democrat. Sexual harassment and payoffs are wrong, regardless of party affiliation or anything else. Conyers should resign and Pelosi should step down as minority leader.
I’m with Pelosi on this one. I say this as someone who went through the gut wrenching career bummer of enduring harassment in downtown Wash, DC, in the early 90s. I opted to file a complaint against much advice not to do so. Not because I’m heroic but because there was no other way for me to move on through the experience intact. It had infiltrated every aspect of my life and I wasn’t up for being broken into a million pieces over a job.
Glad I did – made it easier for the young woman who took my job to succeed in lodging her own complaint when she eventually went through the same hell with the same boss. After her experience, the fellow was removed. He’d been brilliant in the job and had managed to get away with his various shenanigans over the course of several years cuz he was, you know, essential and the rest of us expendable. It was murder on the nerves for months on end and my status as a troublemaker followed me to the next job. Took awhile for folks to trust me to do the work and to relax around me. Ironies.
The folks we’re up against in Trump world don’t take prisoners. Time to start taking a lesson from their playbook. I expect that Conyers will be leaving in stages. In the meantime, I’m with Pelosi in holding the line until more is known. Or Moore is fully known. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a Moore love child or Moore abortion story pop up in the next couple of weeks.
It’s essential that men and women both understand fully that this sort of conduct is not only what we call “wrong” but illegal. And, if I’m in error on that score, on the matter of on the books legality, let’s work to make it so. STAT.

That’s right – we would. But we’re learning ever so slowly that y’all were never to be trusted. Not, of course, that we haven’t known that for several decades now. Give you an inch, you take a mile and get off on scolding us about how muddle-headed and irresponsible we are. Enough of that now. So, yeah, would be do just that, all that you describe? Most likely. Sucks to be us, right? This is a whole different ballgame, this past year. I wouldn’t waste too much breath attempting to school anyone.

When Mark Sanford had his little escapade did ANYBODY call for the speaker to step down? When Mark Foley had his little trip down Pedophelia Lane did that happen either? NO And no. When Larry Craig got caught in an airport restroom did anyone call for the majority leader to step down? NO.

I really saw no reason for Mark Sanford to step down. His worst mistake was not telling anybody where he went.
I don’t care if they’re faithful to their wives or not. I care how they handle those kinds of things. Sanford was not the awful coward that John Edwards was. That’s what I can’t forgive him for. Elliott Spitzer was breaking the law while AG for NY and that was the part of his sex scandal that I won’t forgive - not the actual sex with prostitutes part, it was the sex with hookers while enforcing the laws against prostitution against those same hookers and the other men who paid them.

We pay politicians as much for thinking on their feet and speaking intelligently as any other reason.
The quite obvious answer to the question put to Pelosi: “Yes, Conyers should resign, on the same day as does Donald Trump; evaluated by the same standards of conduct and evidence Trump’s resignation should come first.”
Please get a clue, Senator. Use your words.

None of the people mentioned used taxpayer dollars to pay for settlements to silence the people that they harassed. That alone should be enough for Conyers to resign from Congress in disgrace. Because that is what it is. A disgrace.
Pelosi should demand he resign.
Either Pelosi knew Conyers did this or she did not. If she did know, she should have stopped it. If she did not know, then she is incompetent. Either way, it is another reason she should step down as Minority Leader.
Many conservatives called for the Republican pedophile Hastert to resign as Speaker because of his response to the Mark Foley scandal. You can look it up.
Sanford was in a consensual relationship with a person who did not work for the government or him. He did not pay cover-up money or commit harassment.
This would be a good day for Donald J. Trump to step down.
