Discussion: Pelosi Sparked This Fight With Trump As Part Of Her Impeachment Strategy

If that’s her REAL plan, I wonder why she would allow it to be leaked to NYT. I think this is just the message Pelosi wants NYT to disseminate. Everyone should’ve known NYT is not a friend by now. It’s only a tool and I hope Pelosi is just making use of it.

“President Donald Trump leaned into his squabble with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday, retweeting a Fox Business Network compilation of Pelosi tripping over her words during a press conference.”

You might, and this is just a suggestion from a non-professional, just might want to indicate that this was a “doctored,” “misleadingly edited,” “altered,” “fake” or other appropriate descriptor of the video.

ETA: (Kate, you wrote the article about the video yesterday, where the word “manipulated” describes it - that would be good here, too. Sorry if this is picking nits. Keep up the reporting. We appreciate it.)

This could get fun* because he is so damn easy to knock off balance with veiled insults about his manhood, competence, etc. He can’t let anything go.

*fun: only because if I didn’t laugh I would start sobbing and never stop

Pelosi says that Donald has mental issues so serious that his family needs to do an intervention. He holds the most powerful job in the world and if she really believes what she says she has to know what a danger that is to us and to the world. Yet she still refuses to use the power of her office to curtail him. What kind of message does that send?

Just a guess at the intended message: “don’t vote for this loon in 2020”

since she’s been arguing that Trump wants them to start proceedings so he can be exonerated by the Republican-led Senate.

Since this is a no brainer, it makes me wonder why some want to rush to impeachment.

The battle under the radar is with McConnell. Forcing his hand with overwhelming evidence and public opinion is the only way to get R Senators to pull his thumb out of their asses and put country before party. No easy task.

Except that now if Pelosi allows impeachment to move forward it’s because she is mad, not because it was ever warranted.

Pelosi is just the latest, and perhaps last, politician to learn that attempting to maneuver Trump is guaranteed to lose. The only way to fight him is head on, non stop, to the bitter end. Pelosi’s dithering on impeachment has cost her career and our republic. He has consolidated power. It’s nearly over for us.

That might be what her supporters see, but that’s not what everyone else sees. They see someone too timid to use the power that they have to stop a disaster from happening.

Powers that, in the end, we may or may not really have, which I think is ultimately the question (and one for which I do not have a confident answer). Do you really think that there is any chance that a Republican dominant and McConnell led Senate will vote to remove Trump from office? If we don’t remove him from office, have we averted any disaster, or merely embolden him?

Trump is easy to maneuver, but only for bad purposes. My guess is that to the extent that she might be maneuvering him, it is just to get as much of a public show of his weaknesses as she can. So far, he is doing that. (Whether or not it will matter is a separate question.)

The biggest advantage Pelosi has over Trump is that he has no self-control. She can set him off at any time and he HAS to respond, always in a vicious and demented manner. One of the most worrisome aspects of this whole process is that 1/3 of Americans approve of his actions. Getting rid of Trump will not correct the fact that a massive number of Americans are mentally ill and they are not going to get better.

We have no clue what sort of discussions are being held behind closed doors with influential Dems. I have not been a fan of Ms. Pelosi, but she is very smart and a true politician who knows what she is doing. She has access to information available to very few people. I am trusting her judgement, but that is subject to change. I do hope she starts the impeachment investigation in late summer or early fall, This would bring to the public’s eye just how evil this administration is just as the elections season goes into full speed.

Personally, I don’t want any news organization to be “a friend”. I want them to report the news and be as impartial as possible. That is also why we must read and get information from more than one source.

Impeachment is definitely a power that she has. No it doesn’t mean removal from office, but it does hold people to account. His crimes will be center stage and if Republicans refuse to convict him they are on record supporting those crimes. Unfortunately, now that they’ve made it personal it complicates things. As has been stated it will look more like vindictiveness than doing what is Constitutionally required.

That is certainly one view (except that it was always going to be personal).

I concur, provide voters with enough evidence of criminal activity to force McConnels hand. Force a vote just prior to the election.
