I honestly can’t believe we’re still having this fight! This should be a given at this point, people deserve equal rights and protections.
Pelosi Promises Hasty Action On LGBTQ Rights Bill Should Dems Win House
“Hasty”?
Yea. WTF?
A “given” at this point is that the hard-core christianists are the most loyal and vigorous supporters of the Republican Party. No Republican dare deny them any legislation they demand.
(And, yes, once the McConnell/Trump SCOTUS knocks Roe out of the way, the American Taliban will be demanding --and getting – decisions against any rights whatsoever for LGBTQ Americans.)
The article itself is quite decent, but a bad (AP) editor, giving a bullshit title can slant the impact of a fair article with despicable effect
Still, Democrats plan to move forward with the bill if they win the House majority, teeing up a test of the GOP’s willingness to block it.
Testing the GOP’s willingness? Yea, that should work. Pelosi pandering pablum.
Well, I thought a woman’s right to reproductive autonomy was settled in the 1970s, but it’s apparently not.
“Hasty” action? Talk about negatively slanted language!

Note the sleight of hand in this bullshit remark?
“The current law in civil rights and the protected classes are inborn and unchangeable characteristics like race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sex, etc., and religion, which is expressly protected under the constitution,”
“One of these things is not like the other.” Religion is not “an unchangeable characteristic,” (unlike, say, being gay). It is also not a protected class in the Constitution, as I understand it. The First Amendment prevents the government from regulating religion but it does not establish religion as a protected class and does not offer protection from private discrimination on a religious basis. That was done through legislation, just as this would be.
Oh man, WTF is she doing? This is an issue that drives out the Dem base in a very limited geographic region in the USA. Dems need to be focused on kitchen table economic issues to appeal to those voters who voted Obama twice but then defected to Trump.
This is not how to do it.
Pelosi was great as speaker, but it’s time for new blood. Same goes for the Senate, but moreso because Schumer was never all that great to begin with.
We need young fighters who can drive wedges into the GOP instead of boomerang wedges that hurt ourselves.
Disclaimer: before anyone screams “you’re hatin’ on the LGBTQR!” I should add that this issue is vital. But some issues you drive through at high noon, while others you slip through in the gloaming. Pelosi is apparently too ensconced in her liberal district to understand this.
And what about age? It changes all the time (except for Chiselin’ Trump, who seems to be locked-in at about 8 years old).
I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe she’s confused because she’s celebrating her 30th 29th birthday this year and she forgets that it changes for other people.
Equal rights for the LGBTQ community doesn’t mean less rights for anyone else. This isn’t pie.
