Discussion: PBS Suspends Distribution Of Smiley Show After Misconduct Allegations

Such a shame. Tavis was a great interviewer.

Anyone notice that is now only Progressive men who are being accused and most anonymously?

Yes he was. Always got the feeling though he was running half-dozen side scams and had three or four women demanding child support. All at the same time. LOL! Liked him for some crazy reason.

Sorry. Still uncomfortable with the extra-judicial nature of the process.

On the bright side, this all is opening up lots of career opportunities for women in politics and the media!

PBS said in a statement Wednesday it had engaged an outside law firm to investigate “troubling allegations” against the host. It said it interviewed witnesses and Smiley and uncovered charges of conduct “that is inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS.”

They investigated it, found it not consistent with PBS standards (whatever those are anymore) and suspended/fired him.

People get fired for a far less reasons than that all the damn time. No outside law firm investigation, no interviews, just fired.

In a statement Wednesday on Facebook, Smiley said he has never “groped, coerced or inappropriately exposed myself to any workplace colleague” in a 30-year broadcast career. He said PBS declined to identify his accusers in an interview with him.

Well, I guess that covers everything Al Franken and Charlie Rose were accused of. And conveniently ignores the sustaining of sexual relationships with more than one subordinate. Also, while I am concerned about the anonymous charges against Franken and the political motives behind the first accusation, I do believe that PBS’ law firm engaged to investigate these allegations interviewed and has identified and corroborated the accusers and their allegations.

“multiple, credible allegations” of misconduct by its host."

Damn, not Tavis too! I really liked his show.

(this is g’s wife) I disagree - it always made me feel uncomfortable how he was always dragging god into everything. what i am also not comfortable with is the refusal to say what happened or specify the allegations, that doesn’t seem right on PBS’s part

He’s an asshole, a real piece of shit who repeatedly trashed President Obama because he thought he would have a direct line to him. My FB was lit up last night with black folks dragging him through the streets. This sanctimonious clown needed to fall.

While that may be true, people are illegally fired all the time or fired without just or documented cause, and that can lead to expensive lawsuits, especially if the terminated employee has financial means to sue. I’m not saying that happened here, just that your argument that people get fired all the time for “far less reasons” is not a comprehensively valid point.

Still no apparent opportunity to defend yourself against unnamed accusers. And this doesn’t bother you? Sorry, still doesn’t rise to minimum level of due process.
