Discussion: PBS' Gwen Ifill Dead At 61

Stop saying 2016 can’t get any worse. The universe interprets this as a direct challenge.

I also have not had the TV on since Nov 8th, but I saw this elsewhere. I knew something was not right since she was gone from Washington Week several times, but she was there 3 or 4 weeks ago and looked the same as always with a smile. This is truly a loss. Seems every good journalist we lose there are 3 bad ones to replace them. RIP Gwen. We will miss you

How much more bad news can be piled on in 1 week’s time. I missed Gwen’s presence in this year’s political discourse and am greatly saddened to learn that she has been waging a battle with cancer which she ultimately lost.

I’m going with the mass extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous period. Without that intervention mankind may never have evolved and we wouldn’t be having this discussion. :smirk:

Congratulations, Murica - you killed Gwen Ifill

It will be worse. HO will be inaugurated POTUS. Then the fun really begins.

My husband watches Hallmark movies all the time. I can always tell as the music soundtrack is the same no matter what the movie is.

I am not going to watch HO’s inauguration. Not only because it would be like torture but after seeing the R convention it will be a dreadful celebration of everything I don’t hold dear.

Science documentaries are good. Something you won’t see acknowledged in the Orange Horror’s admin.

I can’t stand to look at his deceitful face without feeling anger inside. I don’t expect that to change as long as he is there. What I keep thinking about is the next mass shooting, and there will be a next one, is Trump addressing the nation in any kind of dignified empathetic manner that we have seen from President Obama. It will be a sad day made even sadder…

And now… back to Hallmark Channel.

I’m expecting the massive earthquake that we constantly hear is going to strike the Pacific NW. This is the year. Or next year when is only a month and a half away.

Well I have one more sad thing to report. While out driving I had NPR on and the news was that Leon Russell died over the weekend
Gwen and Leon gone
While driving home thru Tucson’s streets I passed the University of Arizona’s police building. I noted that their flag was at half staff. It could be they listen to NPR and to Leon.

@silvrfox I am gonna boycott not just the Inauguration but anything to do with trump. If the Supreme Court can get by without a Justice to fill Fat Tony’s slot then we don’t need a Chief Executive. So there’s that.
Bitter? You damn right I’m bitter. And angry that my countrymen either didn’t give a shit to vote or voted for that serial lying spoiled 10 yr old in a 70 yr old body. I need to invent a moniker for him that incorporates all trump’s bad qualities. I am open to suggestions.

Don’t forget Leonard Cohen.

That very brave SF 49er who decried racism so publicly didn’t vote. Proudly.

Last night I 2 episodes of Evening Shade and wished there had been more.

Gwen was gentle while persistent. Such a comfortable presence. And she did not suffer fools gladly…a trait that I greatly admire.

How you doing kid? You’re both a valued and wonderful presence here, thank you for your contributions to our collective perspective.
