Discussion for article #232701

Wait, I thought it was, “no, no, no, no…” ad infinitum? Guess they really don’t have their ducks in a row. heheh.

So I guess it’s a for gone conclusion that the ACA is going down. Everyone is reporting like it’s a done deal.

I think they and everyone understand not only do they not have a back up plan, but if they did it would never pass. This is simply to give Justice Roberts cover. What happens when the chips fall is of no concern as they will blame Obama for ramming thru an unconstitutional bill that had no business being passed and giving a false sense of hope in the first place.

Obama stole their backup plan from the Heritage Foundation and they called it Obamacare.

They have nothing.

One does get that feeling. But I am hoping against hope that Chief Justice Roberts does not want to blow up his historical legacy by taking away health care from 9 million people, spiking premiums for a lot of folks and pissing off the health insurance lobby.

I just can’t believe he’d be so stupid. And if he thinks the GOP Congress will come up with a fix, he’s even more stupid.

If the ACA really is “broken” by the SCOTUS, just “fix” it!!! Morons…

OK…the named a Task Force. Reminds me of Admiral Halsey steaming into Leyte Gulf. There will be no stoppin’ the Republican health care plan now!

They can’t. They’ve been screaming “repeal and replace” for 4 years now.

Great - Fred Upton, my sister’s idiot congress critter. She says he’s more stupid than vicious, but since he has an R behind his name, viciousness can’t be foreign to him.

A task force? Republicans haven’t even thought about it much less discussed what they might possibly do? That means they don’t want to do anything.

It’s back to the emergency rooms for all 11 million people that Republicans are going to deny healthcare coverage. Can’t wait to see how this affects those with pre-existing conditions who will suddenly be taken off their meds and cancer treatments.

Whatever happens, I don’t expect full repeal. The ACA is more than just subsidies. Full repeal would be tantamount to Obiter Dictum. And as bmcchgo noted, “Chief Justice Roberts does not want to blow up his historical legacy by taking away health care from 9 million people, spiking premiums for a lot of folks and pissing off the health insurance lobby.” Plus he would be ruling against himself in the original case as he could have quashed subsidies then. All this wailing and gnashing of teeth gets readers but overstates the likely outcome.

Or should I say, “lack thereof”

If this SCOTUS scenario had taken place after WWII (mid- 20th Century), with nine robed men literally condemning millions to death, we would not be having this conversation Now, the “Press” has been bought and paid for.

If and when the MSM goes down whimpering on this, we are in a fix. The Rethug Message Machine has the horses to say the earth revolves around the moon, with Millennials yawning, geriatrics enraged at Mr. Obama for altering the Laws of Physics, and the rest of us wringing our hands (as usual).

I keep hearing people talk about “social media” and the like as empowering people. But social media still does not have the ability of the MSM for creating a sense of what is “normal”–and what is normal right now is exactly the mayhem we see every day.

Roberts can very well do anything he wants, as long as Diane Sawyer is gazing at him compassionately and “understanding” his “difficult, but Constitutionally necessary decision”.

Just a point of order-this case does not involve a constitutional issue at all. It involves a reading.of a statute. So SCOTUS would bot be ruling anything unconstitutional here. I doubt the decision, whichever way it goes, will even mention the Constitution.

No, I think it’s just managing the PR – the Republicans want to appear to be concerned about the American public, and so this is just damage control for the Party of Hell No.

Paul Ryan’s solution to the healthcare crisis caused by an adverse Supreme Court ruling?

Take the money earmarked for subsidies and give Moar Tax Cuts to rich people (oops, I mean “job creators” – you know, the ones we celebrate on Labor Day).

Don’t be fooled. The republicans already have a backup plan in place. Actually, it is their primary plan from the start. It is “If you are poor, die. Preferably quickly.”

If Obama had half the balls he should, he’d be out in front of this telling them he’s going to veto anything and everything they do to attempt to “repeal and replace” the ACA. He’s should be front and center telling them and the idiot Amurikan public that an adverse ruling would require all of 3 word changes to fix and that he’s not going to allow the GOP/Teatrolls to try to leverage that into gutting the plan in order to leave more people without insurance and saddle the middle-class with higher costs of living…and dying. Period. No negotiations. No lengthy discussions. No several meetings where the GOP/Teatrolls show up in bad faith never intending to compromise. No nothing. NO QUARTER.
