This actually sheds light on something that has been bothering me for some time, and tends to have a certain internal logic.
Basically, Ryan, McConnell and Co. want Congress to have a bigger stake in foreign policy, and have the President merely be a rubber stamp for their domestic agendas. They see Trump has a great opportunity to advance that institutional goal…he WILL rubber stamp their domestic agenda, and they believe he will be so feckless and downright insane regarding foreign policy that it will result in surrendering much of the Executive powers there to them by default.
Its a Branch battle between the institutions shaping up. Keep Trump there as a figurehead to help GOTV, but hamstring him as much as possible while they pull the actual levers of power.
Which will result in a disaster, just a slightly different version of disaster that letting Trump do as he wishes would.
Russia does not share America’s interests. In fact, it has consistently sought to undermine them, sowing dangerous instability around the world," … "And it serves as a prime example of this administration’s ineffective foreign policy that has left America weaker in the eyes of the world.
Sounds like Paul Ryan and Russia share the same interests because Ryan and McConnell had every opportunity this summer to protect America’s interests when Obama informed them about Russia hacking and undermining our elections, but they did nothing.
So, according to Speaker Twitt, eight years ago would have been the appropriate time to impose sanctions for events that haven’t happened yet. “Russia doesn’t share U.S. interests”. Apparently after the dick you endorsed for potus invited Russia to hack Clintons’/ DNC emails on national television, everything got ‘interesting’ quickly.
Nice try pauly but you can’t have it both ways and still hope to appear intelligent. And you never did.
Says the guy who sat in on the June briefing by the NSA and was, at best, a tacit supporter-by-silence when McConnell responded to a plea for a bipartisan denunciation of Russian interference in our election by threatening to denounce the whole thing as a partisan smear job if the NSA went public.
And this is how it’s going to be. Every time he opposes Trump on some asinine piece of madness that’s too crazy even for Ryan to countenance, he’ll blame Obama for the necessity of doing so.
You make a good point, daveyjones, and the Dems would do well to exploit this with the insecure, i.e. psychopathic narcissist, Pepe.
“President [I won’t say its name], your congress is making you look weak! Like a loser! They’re taking authority and control away from you and you’d better do something to make sure they understand how powerful the presidency is supposed to be!”
If the Dems play this correctly, they won’t need to roadblock so much because the infighting on the other side will do it for them.
I also see a subtle shift toward Congressional Republicans re-asserting their previous worldviews, with the understanding that Pence will be the de facto president and trump’s blatherings become less meaningful in terms of actual policy.
They may just let trump wander the countryside telling jokes at his “Heil trump!” rallies while back in DC, Congress does whatever it wants, giving only token nods to trump’s goofy and ineffectual tweets.
I agree. This is what I figured would happen all along. We’ll see the standard GOP initiatives passed and signed by The Mangled Apricot Hellbeast, while in the meantime he seeks public attention and money-making opportunities.
Paul Ryan looks more and more like a fool everyday.
The GOP is grooming him. Pretty much foolish enough for Repub Prez candidacy already, if you ask me. Of course, if Donald is the new measure, he might need a bit more work. But, not much.
“While today’s action by the administration is overdue, it is an
appropriate way to end eight years of failed policy with Russia. And it
serves as a prime example of this administration’s ineffective foreign
policy that has left America weaker in the eyes of the world.”
What he leaves out is that America is weaker in the eyes of the world after 8 years of Obama, because his party is now taking over full rein of government.
"Mr. Speaker, we wish to thank you for your enlightened leadership and all your people have done to oppose Russia’s blatant assault on our constitution.
