When it’s a Republican, it’s whistle-blowing. When it’s a Democrat, it’s a leak.
(And then there are the JarVanka puff pieces that keep getting published, but that’s another matter entirely.)

As Josh Marshall says “the gravity is strong”
I know it’s breakfast time, but I’m breaking out the popcorn. Garrett’s Chicago Mix, anyone?
Daily Kos reports that Ryan said he had seen the documents.
I just want to note…for the umpteenth time…that the only “proof” we had that Nunes has information is from Nunes himself. He has not disclosed any verifiable evidence that 1) He reviewed any documents 2) He spoke with anybody 3) That he even visited the White House.
I have not seen a single reporter verify via the White House visitor logs that Nunes did indeed make a visit that night. I have not seen a single reporter verify with Uber that Nunes Wild Ride took place (he claims he jumped out of one Uber car and called another. Presumably, he also called a 3rd to take him home). He merely made this claims, and everyone jumped on board as they were gospel. Keep in mind, this guy’s story has changed with every interview he has given…so a healthy level of skepticism is indeed warranted.
NOBODY has seen his evidence of surveillance. Not Ryan, not Schiff, not a single republican on his own committee, nobody in the Senate Intel Committee. And certainly no reporter. Not even anybody in the White House, since his story went from “I have evidence” to “I saw evidence” to “I heard evidence”…all from a completely unverifiable source.
So yeah, your prediction is probably spot on…considering he has been given a green light to say whatever the hell he wants, and won’t be pushed on verifying any of it.
This bozo thinks he’s still the “Young Gun” of yesteryear. He’s the last one standing, as
Cantor is out making some real coin and McCarthy’s ill considered shot at the speakership revealed what a mumble mouthed nitwit he is. Ryan’s knuckleheaded ACA “replacement” splattered crap all around, especially on the so called “president”, so I salute his genius on that maneuver. Now he’s doing a coy fan dance with this cover up. I know he can be counted on to go along with the obfuscation as long as possible, but the moment somebody with a warrant shows up he’ll squeal. If this was a mob movie Don would have had him whacked yesterday, just because.
A ‘whistleblower type’ on the WH grounds he met with secretly then he briefed Trump because somebody was escorting him through the WH and now he can’t brief his committee because it’s really the Democrats that want to impede this investigation? (I’m trying hard to be in the ‘minds’ of Nunes and Ryan)…why does this not pass the smell test?
True, but the wide-eyed stammering, and blurting out sentence fragments, and degeneration into circular word salad was what I was talking about.
Although Ryan was only able to get to “like, a whistle-blower type person” - not even a real whistle-blower. Because, of course, it wasn’t a whistle-blower but someone in the administration using Nunes for the tool he is.
There’s a silver lining to all of this: cushy sinecures are for closers, and as of yet Ryan has failed to make good on any of his Randian promises. In two/four years he could well be in the same situation Pat McCrory is in now.
@demyankee That’s on top of the “creeping small-handism” that Josh observed in the thumbs-up photo taken after the AHCA died.

(I’m trying hard to be in the ‘minds’ of Nunes and Ryan)
Be extremely careful in there. Good luck. Let us know if you find anything.
Nunes himself admits this whistle blower type person didn’t reveal evidence of a crime. He said the documents he saw were legally obtained.
What is that moron talking about?? He makes just as much sense as Nunes. Idiot…
Oh, the excrement…!
FIFY.
These quotes looks like Palin-level word salad. But Ryan is a super smart wonk, we are constantly assured, NOT a weasel well out of his depth.
He says different things at each and every different moment and constantly changes his stories. Nothing coherent and credible there… so yes he said the documents were legally obtained, but he also said they were from the whistle blower type person.
Now, here is where things are going to get really bizarre…
Nunes and Ryan, particularly Nunes, have teed themselves up to be questioned by the Senate Intel Committee. Quite frankly, I don’t see how Nunes avoids that…or at the very least, avoids a series of lengthy interviews with the FBI. Nunes is burned and has dragged dirt into Ryan’s abode in the process.
He had a private conversation with Ryan, who has just now admitted to some of the scope of that conversation…specifically, regarding the nature of Nunes’ leaker. How do you get to that part of the conversation without discussing the nature of the actual leak?
Further, Ryan went to the White House and had a private conversation, only to come out and say that he stands firmly behind Nunes and won’t remove him from the Committee. Again, how does Nunes not come up in any meeting with the White House, even if only in passing?
So Nunes, who said he would not reveal his sources or details of what he learned, told Ryan more than he has told his committee.
The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight, indeed.
Translation: no I don’t have the stones to replace Nunes so here is my very own lying narrative as to why Nunes’ lying narrative is believable and gospel true and no grounds at all for rebuke or replacement.
I have just enough brains to know when I need to cover my ass, and to know that in the US of A mostly no on else has the brains to question me. I’ve gotten away with this all my life, suckers.
So…Nunes had the documents but didn’t have them. Nunes didn’t show Ryan the documents, but Ryan’s seen them.
Mr. Speaker, you’re standing in a hole with a shovel and don’t know why. Stop digging.
