For old-school Republicans, this must be like a family reunion that they’ve looked forward to every four years . . .
. . . Except this year:
• The two biggest branches of the family are promising to spend the whole time fighting—possibly with actual violence.
• Attendence will entail being forced to watch how a once-great family has completely degenerated.
• There’s also a strong likelihood that the resulting media attention will further blacken the family name, with disasterous effects on all attendees’ ability to continue holding their jobs.
So I understand anyone wanting to skip it this year.
But I also understand Ryan wanting as many people to hold his hand through this clusterfck as possible.

I’ll take lying for 1000… Look, Ryan is finally being exposed for the fraud he is. The Freedumb Caucus is out of control, and Ryan is too gutless to use his power as Speaker to try to reign them in. If he did that, he’d be out the door faster than Boehner, and Ryan has bigger plans for himself. Except, he’s stuck. If he can’t get Republican officeholders to the convention, he’s really screwed.

Just be sure to stop by the kiosk and buy your #nevertrump flak jacket and combat helmet before entering the arena. You might want to wear them back to you hotel room as well.

Ryan is one of what, half a dozen republicans who are actually required to go to the convention (the candidates, him because he’s presiding, dunno who else)? But really, it’s natural for him to pretend that things are going to not be that bad.
