Refreshing honesty is refreshing

Yes, though he would have done better to leave off the “It’s just not for me.”

TPM:

Manderino’s post reads: “I have realized that I will hate this job and I do not believe that will do our district very much good. It’s just not for me.”

If only Marco Rubio had as much foresight.

Forgive me for sounding jaded but I think there’s he potential for something else behind this. I say that because his grandfather held the seat and his uncle was his campaign manager. It sounds like he was in a position to know what he was getting into before hand. Of course, if he did know but had a sudden change of heart he’s certainly entitled to taht.

Why?

My first thought was, “is it too late to get another Dem into the contest? Is this seat vulnerable to a red takeover?” Not having looked at the district, I’m just wondering if he saw an uphill battle and decided to get out early.

Wow. This makes him an even more attractive (non)candidate.

You know what – good for him. (Assuming there isn’t some yet-to-be-disclosed scandal forcing his hand.)

Something I wish more “legacy” candidates would consider: If your heart’s not in it, don’t run just because you’d have an advantage due to your family name and political connections.

I think they all hate the job. They have to have:

  1. the idealism to put up with it to enact the changes they feel are necessary, or
  2. the desire to use the position eventually to get rich, or
  3. enough of #1 to last until #2 kicks in.

Perhaps there’s something in his past. The DC Madam? Nah he’s too young.

OMGosh, that’s right! The DC Madam black book of names will be released soon – and it’s supposed to possibly affect this year’s Presidential election. Tick-Tock.

And Ted Cruz and the Donald and, and, and . . . .

His first call of congratulations was probably from John Boehner.

Better to leave off the “It’s just not for me,” because it elevates his own needs. It is like responding to the “why do you want to work here” question in a job interview with a description of the employee benefits, the girlfriend who works one building over, and the free sodas in the break room. Okay, so not that bad, but in that direction.

He could finish with: “There are a lot of talented people in this district who would do a great job for us,and I will give them my full support.”

Honesty in politics? What are we coming to?

Yes, it appears that Rubio came to this conclusion. Unfortunately, there are so many meddlers in his party including him and this whole keep all the balls in the air strategy to keep everyone on edge; he could pop up any time for a big sip of agua. Everyone knows how easily Marco can be confused into changing his position.

West Newton Mayor Mary Popovich and Monessen businessman Charles Mrlack
(MER’-lak) are still running to replace retiring state Rep. Ted Harhai.
All are Democrats.

That could be, but it actually sounds to me more like the kid who’s been brought up all his life knowing he’s expected to take over the family business, so he never really thought about it until the reality stares him right in the face.
