Cafeteria Christians = cafeteria lovers of the Constitution.
They think that this is a winning ‘strategy’…
We know exactly the kind of person [Obama] is going to appoint…
Just love these precon folks, maybe instead of freaking out about a person not yet mentioned let alone nominated they take that talent in a useful direction. You know, give us all the greatest penny stock tip, tell us who the Repugs will nominate, who will win, useful stuff such as that.
The GOP swine have changed their stance. The constitution clearly stated the President SHALL put forth a nominee. Now they are concentrating on the rights of the Senate. Is what they are babbling about correct within the Constitution? Can the Senate simple ignore the President’s nominee? Concentrate on this contempt for the law during the election year … this goes beyond simple hypocrisy into out-and-out whoring.
Is anyone else sickened by fact that a man that consorts with drug smugglers (http://www.thenation.com/article/mitch-mcconnells-freighted-ties-shadowy-shipping-company/) refuses to do his job in the Senate? If this had been a Democratic politician this drug story would have been on Fux news non-stop.
Why are conservatives so opposed to the Constitution?
I heard that he (and not Jonn Jonzz) is really the last son of Mars.
Mind you, its a rumor…
“Conservative” = Confederate
Republican = Rebel against the Union
What are they gonna do? Not vote?
We shouldn’t over think the state of play. It’s pretty simple. Obama will nominate a candidate who would uphold Roe v Wade and the Administration’s immigration program. Obama’s candidate will also be open to either scaling back or repealing Citizens United. Republicans will never let such a nominee make it to the Court. Whether of not the Republicans hold hearings and allow a floor vote is all a matter of tactics, balancing their bottom line hostility to such a nominee with their desire to blunt any possible political backlash. So, we should assume that there will be a 4-4 court for the rest of Obama’s Administration, which is actually pretty good for us, on balance, because it protects basic constitutional rights and Administration initiatives in most of the circuits, including the critical DC Circuit. In the next Congress, whether it’s Republican or Democrat, the “losing side” will make sure that the nominee from the opposite party’s president, will not get confirmed, leaving the Court at 4-4. The deadlock will only be broken by eliminating the filibuster rule, because neither side is going to get a filibuster proof majority.
Let’s all throw this at McConnell:
I believe that either Hillary or Bernie will be the next president. Wouldn’t it be better for the conservatives to look at the person President Obama nominates, Obama knows that nominee would have to be somewhat centrist to get confirmed. When the next president comes into office and if that spot is open, there is a very good chance that nominee would be much more liberal. So I am okay either way and just enjoying the ride.
Amazing how RepubliKKKlans’ go from being “strict Constitutionalists” who adore and refer the holy text to whining howler monkeys who hate this President so much that the Constitution becomes just a “…goddamned piece of paper” that they shred at a moment’s notice when it suits their Right Wingnuttery sh*thouserat’ crazy fascist agenda.
Democrats need to be AGGRESSIVELY PROGRESSIVE…
I’m sick and tired of worrying about what Republicans will or won’t do. Screw that!
The people who believe that today’s Republicans may choose to act rationally or reasonably are the same people who are validating their irrational and unreasonable behaviors.
Let them put their insanity on full display.
Let them alienate liberal, moderate, independent, moral, ethical and conscientious voters.
Let them make it easier for Democrats to take back control of the Senate and House and win the presidency.
Let them be the bat shit crazies they’ve devolved into being.
Let them burn down their own house.
According to the RepuliKKKlan Party, the court is “balanced” when there are 5 RepubliKKKlan rubber stamps on it who will outvote the other 4.
In the old days: A whole 7 years and 1 month ago.
This will backfire on Republicans, and the leading Presidential contenders are not smart enough, nor compelling enough to actually defend this nonsense when asked what they think of it.
The Republicans have not been very good with the long game for the the entirety of Obama’s presidency. The policy has been to obstruct now, worry later. It’s how they’ve screwed themselves over on policy positions like the ACA.
So complying with their constitutional duty to provide advice and consent is just a “silly distraction” for GOP Senators? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
TEA Party seizes control of the Republican Senate campaign. What could possibly go wrong ?
Sadly the best strategy Obama has is to put forth a candidate who has breezed through a previous confirmation knowing s/he is doomed, much like sacrificing a pawn in chess. This must be timed to have the maximum impact on the election. The GOP will probably allow a hearing followed by a strict party line rejection, the focus on this will open some eyes among low information voters. If the GOP flatly refuses to consider a nominee that works better for our side but in either case Obama’s first submission is a kamikaze mission.
