Outrage indeed. I did not predict this, but am in no ways shocked that this âinvestigationâ is just a charade a fig leaf over GOP corruption. Just check the box. âSee, we gave you an investigation. Now letâs get on with confirming this psychopath and alcoholicâ.
Outrage is exactly what the GOP wants⌠itâs easy to ignore
Meanwhile in conservative land, investigating information from others that he regularly drank to the point of incoherence and in one claim even to the point of assaulting someone with a beer, is âmoving the goal postsâ. I kid you not.
Dr Ford claims that he got stumbling drunk and violently attacked her. Evidence from others that he was indeed a violent drunk are unrelated to this, and shouldnât be pursued? How does that even start to make sense?
NB: the weird part is that I now actually went and read the article in the extreme right-wing newspaper and the author in fact lays out for example exactly what the classmate Luddington claims, that Kavanaugh did indeed regularly drink to excess and became âbelligerentâ when he did. And yet the author still concludes that this is unrelated to Dr Fordâs accusations. Amazing. Itâs an alternate universe where facts donât work like facts.
Please proceed, Mr. Flake. That which you asked for is not being fulfilled.
Itâs good that the media are scrutinizing this inquiry. Hopefully, theyâve made enough noise for Director Wray to push for FBI independence. I read, though, that Wray and Kavanaugh traveled in the same social circle at one time as Alex Azar is a friend to both. There is an element of a conservative male (mostly white) fraternity protecting each other here.
Politically, a sham investigation doesnât really help Kavanaughâs credibility nor does it make a âyesâ vote easier for Collins, Murkowski or Manchin. If they werenât ready to vote âyesâ on Thursday/Friday, I donât know why they would be ready to do so today.
Omissions from the probe are one thing, amoral criminality is the real concern.
I donât understand why the Repugs are so determined to push Kavanaugh through, unless they are afraid of their far right supporters. It seems to me that they are causing themselves more damage by continuing this charade. There are plenty more where he came from and they should be able to find someone who doesnât have Kavanaughâs baggage. I am assuming they still have time to make a Supreme Court appointment before Jan 1 if they lose control of the Senate in November.
I wish I agreed⌠yes the media says there is an investigation⌠but where are they saying that the investigation is a sham?
And as usual, the Democratic Leadership isn 't leading the fight! Why arenât the very meek and timid Diane Feinstein and Chuckie money Schumer calling a news conference with all the major networks and demanding the FBI be allowed to do its job!
Feinstein and Schumer have no gutsâŚMcConnell walks all over them!
We want real leaders and fighters in the Democratic partyâŚget rid of these establishment Demopublicans. Give the people a real and profound alternative to the Republican Russian corporatists and the people will vote them all out!
I have little hope that the official investigation will make much of a difference, what matters is just the time this week for other claims about him to come forward. Also for the depth of how disqualifying his angry ranting about conspiracies was last week to sink in, which Republicans knew wouldnât wear well outside the heat of the moment.
Not saying I know anyone will vote no, I just think if so it will be because of all the information coming out publicly, not from whatâs pretty clearly a sham investigation.
When, after the Ford hearing, I wondered why the administration did not conduct a controlled, CYA âinvestigationâ to appease skeptics, people on here thought the FBI would be too angry with DJT to ever comply with such a request and that a sham investigation would be impossible for the upstanding FBI.
Câmon. You know as well as I do that the WH and GOP congress only supports serious, yet truncated investigations into important matters.

Seems like Ford is not even on the list to be interviewedâŚ
Or Kavanaugh
I just called Senator Tillisâ office regarding limits on the FBI investigation. An aide said there are no constraints. I cited recent stories in the Times & the Post. The aide said that Senators do not control the investigation. I pointed out that the Senator could reach out to the White House, and could publicly call for a fair, open investigation. MORAL: we need to call our senators. Especially the swing votes and the Judiciary Committee.
I think a news conference needs to be called by people who have tried to talk to the FBI and are getting the run around. Forget the dems. They are asleep at the wheel. The only thing that is working right now is when activists and concerned citizens take the process into their own hands. i understand that people donât want death threats, but itâs media time.
McConnell could have the Senate vote on Friday, correct?
I would love to see this.
Tillisâs office is lying. As usual.
